Chalte
Chalte
BY Judi

Chalte
Chalte is divided into two parts. The first
consists of the sweet and funny wooing on the part of a man who is
desperately trying to win the heart of the woman he loves. A man who will go
any distance on his mission, as long as he reaches the desired results.
Part two shows us what happens after the desired results are achieved. Now
practicality and responsibilities start to overshadow their lives, and
things begin to change. Raj wants so much to give Priya everything, but
situations prevent that from happening and instead actually causes a wedge
between them. When overwhelming financial problems are hanging over his
head, he is at a loss of how to keep them from ending up living on the
streets.
The climax of the movie happens when Priya does something to try to rectify
their present set of circumstances. Without thinking of what the outcome
might be, she goes behind Raj's back to do it and he finds out, hurting him
so deeply that he responds by flying into a fit of rage. Being someone who
acts before he thinks, his rampage destroys not only their apartment but
their relationship. After some time apart, Raj rethinks the situation and
goes to try and reconcile. But the timing is all wrong and he ends up
assuming things which aren't true. This sends him into a drunken stupor and
leads to an embarrassing situation for Priya and her family.
This being the last straw, Priya decides she can't take it anymore and make
plans to move back to Greece. When Raj finds out and realizes this will end
their marriage forever, he his frantic. The airport scene is heart wrenching
- his desperate search and pleas for Priya's forgiveness and acceptance to
start over. When she refuses and leaves, we see all that is left of a man
defeated. He performs one last act of repentance, praying that it will bring
his Priya back to him forever. This proves to be what touches her heart and
she goes back, hoping to find him alive.
Although in the end things needed to be sorted out in order for any lasting
changes to be made, one thing prevailed - love. All will see that "Love is
long-suffering. It hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails."
Mohabbatein
Mohabbatein
means...Love stories. And as we know, some love stories live forever. At
least one does for Raj Aryan, the eternal lover. His beloved Megha had been
taken from him years ago in death. Yet his love for her grows stronger and
deeper every day. Her memory is so vivid and alive to Raj, that he is able
to see and share special moments with her, simply by closing his eyes. He
doesn't carry a picture of her, because he says he never felt the need for
it, since he sees her wherever he sees love. He explains his love for her
this way. "I did not fall in love with her on the condition that she would
live longer than me. There are no conditions in love, so there should be no
regrets. So what if today she is not with me. I still love her the same
way...not because I can't find someone else to love, but loving her makes me
happy. Whenever I miss her, I close my eyes and she is with me. Love is just
like life, it's not always easy, and it does not always bring happiness. But
we do not stop living, why should we stop loving."
The song Humko hamise chura lo is a beautiful expression of their love.
The conflict of this story comes into play when Raj reunites with Megha's
father Narayan Shanker, a man who believes strongly that to love only leads
to pain. He is also the one man who opposed their love from the very
beginning. Can Raj change his mind? How far will he go to bring love and
beauty into this man's hardened heart? Watch and see what love can
accomplish and then you will believe that...some love stories do live
forever.
DEVDAS
Devdas
is the ultimate love story, which transcends everything ... even life
itself.
It is the story of a man called Devdas Mukherjee,
a child who, essentially is trapped in a man's body. A man whose intense
love for his childhood sweetheart Paro, came to destroy him. One hasty
decision, and a realization which came too late, ruined any change they had
of being together.
Not being able to live without Paro, as she now belonged to another,
Devdas took to excessive drinking in order
to forget her. Even though his life became a downward spiral, leading only
to self-destruction, he was still not able to put her out of his mind.
The sheer intensity of his love consumed every part of him. His burning
passion could be seen deep in his eyes. No one, not even a beautiful
courtesan, could erase the memories embedded within him. In fact she makes
him remember Paro all the more. Even sleep itself refuses to assist him in
this burning quest. He asks, "when will this thirst be quenched?"
Merely existing, he promises Paro that he would visit her before he died. He
makes good on his promise and sacrifices everything to see her one last
time. His peace finally blankets him, in the form of eternal sleep.
His being a chaste and faithful lover to Paro, gives even greater depth to
his undying devotion. Although tragic, Devdas
will prove to be the ultimate love story for all time.
Shahrukh on Devdas: "Devdas was really,
really beautiful. I don't think I'll love any film in the next few years as
much as I loved Devdas. It is the epitome of
romance. My parents would have been very proud I did Devdas."
Anyone watching this beautiful film will be able to see and understand the
conflicts which rage inside this man, from Shah Rukh's performance. It is a
well executed characterization you don't want to miss!!! It is a film that
you'll watch over and over again. |
