Wedding blues, again!

http://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images83/Ash-Abhishek.jpgAbhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya RaiTelevision viewers have been blitzed with stories about the supposed Ash-Abhishek marriage this week, with news channels going ga-ga carrying pictures of the couple exchanging garlands at a temple.

Not only is the garland story old hat, it’s also questionable why the story is being circulated all over again (maybe because Guru is set for release this week?).

A *****y actress puts it succinctly, “Ash and Abhishek haven’t clicked as an on-screen pair, but because of their romance they want to pair up in as many films as possible (they recently signed Vicky Singh’s Raaste). After Umrao Jaan’s flop, they’re desperate to make sure that Guru becomes a hit. I’m positive that the temple wedding pictures circulating on TV are pictures from Guru.”

Even though such tactics are part of every PR manager’s publicity strategy today, we’re wondering how a filmmaker of Mani Ratnam’s caliber is allowing such underhand promotional devices to go uncensored. Finally giving in to the pressure, are we?

Abhishek's plans for Feb 19!
By: Sandipan Dalal
January 11, 2007 http://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images83/Abhishek121.jpgAishwarya Rai and Abhishek BachchanContrary to elaborate newspaper reports of the gala preparation for Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding on the February 19 — including the hotel bookings, limousines, designer wear et al, the truth is that Bachchan Jr will be shooting that day.

There is no Bachchan-Rai shaadi next month and on February 19, the actor will be in Bikaner facing the camera and ranting his lines for good friend Goldie Behl’s Drona.

Spoilsport shooting

Says producer Shrishti Arya, “Abhishek is going to be shooting with us on February 19 in Bikaner. So he’s surely not getting married on that day.”

We hear that the actor will be canning vital sequences during that period that include a few stunts. Informs a crewmember, “The scenes that we are shooting at that point is very vital to the plot. Abhishek had given us the dates last year itself. If he had marriage on his mind he would have never given us the dates.”

In fact, on the D-day Abhishek will be nowhere near Ms Rai. He will with his co-stars Priyanka Chopra, Kay Kay Menon and other crewmembers of Drona. As for Aishwarya Rai, she will be shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodha Akbar at Karjat.

A close friend of the actress further reveals, “As per my knowledge, Aishwarya won’t have any respite from her set of work. For the last two months, she was in Jaipur and now when Abhishek is heading there, she’s going to be in Karjat. Jodha Akbar’s an extremely important film and they’re going to wrap it up only in April.” -midday

Aishwarya-Abhishek are engaged, says Big B

CNN-IBN

Mumbai: After months of speculation the cat is finally out of the bag. Actors Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan got engaged on Sunday evening.

Abhishek's father and superstar Amitabh Bachchan has confirmed the news to CNN-IBN.

Sources have told CNN-IBN that the couple is expected to tie the knot shortly.

The engagement, which took place at Aishwarya's residence in Mumbai, was a closely guarded affair.

Rumour mills were abuzz all through the year regarding their affair first and then about their wedding.

In November last year Aishwarya – accompanied by the Bachchans – emerged from the Sankat Mochan temple sending the media, which had been camping overnight, aflutter.

Soon after the temple visit, speculation was rife that Abhishek and Aishwarya had got married much earlier at the Meenakshi temple in Madurai.

But now it seems all speculation can be put to rest and Bollywood can gear up for the big wedding in the film industry’s first family.

THE STORY SO FAR
A few months ago rumours about Aishwarya and Abhishek’s wedding had gathered momentum after it was revealed that the actor's uncle, Ajitabh Bachchan, had visited well-known astrologer Chandrashekhar Swami in Bangalore with the horoscopes of the two.
At the time when the Bachchan’s went to Varanasi, there were other media reports, which said that Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai had actually got married much earlier at the Meenakshi temple in Madurai..
In Varanasi, Aishwarya was accompanied by Abhishek's father and Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, mother Jaya, sister Shweta Nanda, uncle Ajitabh and his daughter Namrata and Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh at the Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi in November.
They took part in a Mangla Aarti and Rudra Abhishek rituals at the temple, believed to be a corrective puja performed especially by the couple since Ash was manglik.
In November last year, Amitabh had said in London, that he wanted Abhishek to settle with a "good girl" of his choice.

Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan get engaged
http://www.zeenews.com/pics/ENT/aishphoto011407_news.jpg Mumbai, Jan 14: Bollywood hearthrob Aishwarya Rai and actor Abhishek Bachchan on Sunday night got engaged to each other at a quiet ceremony in Mumbai, setting the stage for the marriage of the film industry`s most talked-about couple. The much-awaited news was confirmed by Amitabh Bachchan himself. The wedding will take place sometime in February.

The engagement between Abhishek, who turns 31 on February 5 next, and 33-year-old Aishwarya, was held at the residence of the Bachchans in suburban Juhu, the actress` secretary Hari Singh said.

The event, attended by family members and close friends of the Bachchan and Rai families, took place between 8.30pm and 9pm, hours after Aishwarya and Abhishek returned here from New York from the promotion of their just-released film "Guru" directed by Mani Ratnam.

Apart from the entire Bachchan clan, family friend Amar Singh was also present on the occasion.

Astrologer Chandrashekar Swami had claimed earlier that the duo would get married between January 14 and February 27 in 2007.

Amid speculations that Ash was a manglik , the couple performed corrective puja at an ancient Shiva Temple in Varanasi, in which the entire Bachchan family was present.

By taking Aishwarya to Varanasi where Amitabh Bachchan’s father Harivanshrai Bachchan’s annual rituals are observed, the Bachchans had sent a message to the rest of the country that Aishwarya was now part of their family.

Both families were going by astrological predictions and suggestions.

Ash is 33 while Abhishek is 31.

There had been considerable speculation in the media about marriage between Abhishek and Aishwarya.

Amitabh had said in London on November 9 last year that he wanted Abhishek to settle with a "good girl" of his choice.

Abhishek and Aishwarya have starred together in Hindi films like Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Na Kaho, Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2.

However, they got their first hit as a pair in Mani Ratnam`s "Guru", which has received tremendous response by the audience.

MUMBAI: It's finally happened. Ending the suspense over the most talked about Bollywood romance in recent times, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have decided to tie the knot.

According to family sources, one of the wedding dates being considered is February 19. Hotel Hyatt in Mumbai has been booked for the big day.

The star couple got engaged on Sunday evening at a quiet ceremony in Mumbai. The 'roka' (engagement) rituals were held between 8.30 pm and 9 pm, hours after Aishwarya and Abhishek returned from New York.

The news was confirmed by Abhishek's father Amitabh Bachchan himself. "The children (Abhishek and Ash) have decided. We are very happy and thought we should go ahead with the 'roka' ceremony. It was held in the evening," he told TOI.

Abhishek, who will turn 31 next month, popped the question to Ash, 33, shortly after midnight in New York after returning from the premiere of Mani Ratnam's Guru, in which the two play a couple with sizzling chemistry. Ash accepted immediately.

Though the Abhishek-Ash marriage has been a distinct possibility — the two have been seeing each other for a while now — the news still took the Bachchan family by surprise.

MUMBAI: Jaya Bachchan was in Jaipur when she learnt about her son's decision to marry Aishwarya. SP leader and a close friend of the Bachchans, Amar Singh, immediately flew from Bhatinda in Punjab to Lucknow.

From there, he went to Jaipur to congratulate Jaya. The two then flew to Mumbai. Anil and Tina Ambani too reached the Bachchan residence "Jalsa" to attend the family celebrations.

The Bachchans, along with the Ambanis and Amar Singh, then went to Aishwarya's Bandra residence with the "shagun". The couple exchanged rings there. Aishwarya has of late been seen with the Bachchan family.

Rumours about the impending marriage intensified in November last year, when she even performed early morning puja along with Abhishek and his family at Varanasi's famous Kashi Vishwanath and Sankat Mochan temples.

Well placed sources say Ash also spent the New Year-eve with the Bachchans. Significantly, the engagement was held a day after "kharmaas" (inauspicious month) ended with Makar Sankranti being celebrated on Sunday.

According to north Indian customs, no auspicious work is undertaken during "kharmaas". Big B's mother Teji Bachchan is critically ill and admitted to Lilavati Hospital.

Amitabh wants the wedding as early as possible so that she can witness it.

Abhishek, Aishwarya get engaged

After days of media speculation, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai finally got engaged in Mumbai on Sunday.

The engagement ceremony took place at the Bachchans' residence soon after the couple landed from the premiere of their latest film Guru in Toronto and New York.

The event was attended by family members of the Bachchan and the Rais. Bachchans' close family friend Amar Singh also attended the ceremony.

It is believed that Abhishek proposed Aishwarya after the premiere of Guru in New York. The actress accepted the proposal on the spot.

Speaking to rediff.com, Aishwarya's media manager Harii Singh confirmed the couple's engagement. "The news is confirmed. Abhishek and Aishwarya have got engaged," Singh said.

However, he refused to give any further details. "At this moment, I can only say that the news of engagement is true," he said.

The marriage date has not been confirmed but it is believed that only very close relatives will be called for the most-awaited Bollywood marriage of 2007.

Earlier, it had been reported that the marriage will take place on February 19, 2007. But that has not been confirmed as yet.

As the news of the engagement became public, the who's who of Bollywood started pouring in at Amitabh Bachchan's residence 'Jalsa' in Mumbai to congratulate the couple.

Karan Johar and Kirron Kher were the first to reach Bachchan's home followed by industrialist Anil Ambani and his wife Tina.
Abhishek and Aishwarya, also known as Abhiwarya, first acted together in the movie Kuch Na Kaho in 2003, where they developed close friendship. Little is known on when the friendship developed in love but the first signs surfaced after Aishwarya split with her last boyfriend Viviek Oberoi in November 2005.

One of the main reason for the split was Aishwarya never publicly acknowledged that she was dating Viviek Oberoi whereas he was talking about his affair all over the town.

Abhishek was earlier engaged to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor. However, the engagement broke off and Karisma married Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay Kapoor in September 2003.

It was in February 2006, when Amitabh Bachchan's brother Ajitabh Bachchan admitted to media that he had gone to Bangalore-based astrologer Chandrashekhar Swamy with the horoscopes of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.

The astrologer had admitted that he had checked the horoscopes of the duo and predicted that if 'God willed,' the wedding will happen.

Over the days, the news of Abhiwarya's wedding died down, but the couple was regularly spotted at various events. Neither Aishwarya nor Abhishek ever admitted that they were seeing each other. At the same time, the films that Aishwarya preferred had Abhishek in the lead roles. Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2 (where she was paired opposite Hrithik) or Guru -- all had Abhishek's presence.

"When I will get married, you all will know," she had told rediff.com in November 2006 at the release time of her film Umrao Jaan. Though the film bombed at the box office, Aishwarya and Abhishek were soon spotted at the Varanasi Sankat Mochan temple on November 27, 2006.

After that incident, the Rais and Bachchans were seen making endless visits to all the holy temples across the country for God's blessings. It seems now that God has finally blessed the couple.

Guruvayoor (Kerala), Jan 15 (IANS) Bollywood's hottest pair Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, who were engaged Sunday, are to visit Kerala's well-known Sree Krishna Temple in Guruvayoor in early February.

The couple will be accompanied by Abhishek's parents - Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, said K.V. Nambiar, president of the Guruvayoor Devasom.

"We were told about their visit from Mumbai though the exact dates would be communicated when their programme is finalised. It would happen in the first week of next month," Nambiar told IANS.

"The visit would take place before their marriage," he said.

According to speculations, Amitabh is likely to give an elephant as an offering to the temple.

Abhishek and Aishwarya were engaged at the Bachchans' residence in Mumbai Sunday.

Industry sources said Abhishek popped the question after the international premiere in Toronto Friday of Bollywood film "Guru" featuring the duo in the lead roles.

Rumours had been flying fast for the past few months that she and Abhishek were about to tie (http://nowrunning.com/news/news.asp?it=9165#) the knot. These reports gained added currency (http://nowrunning.com/news/news.asp?it=9165#) after Aishwarya accompanied Abhishek and his parents to perform rituals at a Varanasi temple in November 2006.

Abhishek-Aishwarya love story : A brief history

15th Jan 2007 21.55 IST
By Aparajita Ghosh, apunkachoice

The love story of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai seems straight out of a Bollywood movie.

There is suspense, romance, drama and a bit of humour in their love story. About four years ago, they were dating different peoples and it hardly looked then that Abhi and Ash would one day be a couple. Today, they are.

When Aishwarya began her acting career in Bollywood, she was asked in an interview who were the people she found most good-looking in Bollywood. She had just one name then : Salman Khan .

It was not long after when she got to act with Salman in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam , and it was during the making of this film Salman and Ash became close to each other. But their relationship was not to last long.

Firstly, Ash’s mother Vrinda did not approve of Salman. Secondly, the actor’s own bratty ways and his reckless lifestyle pushed Ash away from him. Their dirty linen came into public view when Salman barged on the sets of Shahrukh’s movie Chalte Chalte and created a scene with Ash.

It was the last nail in the coffin of Ash-Salman relationship. The actress moved away from Salman and found love in Vivek Oberoi .

On the other hand, Abhishek’s engagement to Karisma Kapoor was broken off and she married a Delhi-based businessman in 2003. Abhi accepted the break-up and sank himself into work.

That was the time when Abhi and Ash had already worked together in two films : Dhai Akshar Prem Ke and Kuch Naa Kaho . They were friends but there was nothing more to their relationship.

Even as Abhishek was single and available in those days, Ash was seeing Vivek. She even offered prayers with him at a temple in South India. But this relationship too was not to last long.

Things began getting sour when Vivek acknowledged in a TV interview that he was seeing Ash, and admitted that marriage was a possibility between them. This allegedly angered Ash who had strictly avoided talking about her personal life in media.

Reports of Ash-Vivek break up surfaced in November 2005 and within weeks it was confirmed that the couple had split.

It is hard to tell when exactly the first sparks of romance began between Ash and Abhishek. Some people say it was during the shooting of the song ‘Kajra Re’ for Bunty Aur Babli . Anyway, seeds of love were sown between them, and Abhi fondly began calling Ash ‘Number Nine’ because she was named the ninth most beautiful woman in the world by a magazine.

By the beginning of 2006, Ash and Abhi romance was already fodder for gossip mills. However, the two never acknowledged their relationship in public.

Then, in February 2006, Amitabh Bachchan ’s brother Ajitabh made a visit to the Bangalore-based astrologer Chandrashekhar Swamy with the horoscopes of Ash and Abhi, thereby fuelling the speculation that marriage was certainly on the cards for the couple.

In the meantime, Ash and Abhi began signing a string of movies together. They signed Umrao Jaan , Dhoom 2 (in which they were not paired) and Mani Ratnam’s Guru .

It was during the making of ‘Guru’ in June 2006, Ash and Abhi became less cautious about being seen together at public places. They visited a cancer hospital, they saw movies together and visited nightclubs in Chennai.

In the months that followed, Ash began to be a part of the Bachchan family, attending dinners and visiting temples with them. In November 2006, just after the release of ‘Dhoom 2’, Ash and Abhi performed a series of pujas at the Kashi Vishwanath temple and Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi.

ENGAGEMENT

It is learnt that Abhishek proposed to Aishwarya after the premiere of ‘Guru’ in Toronto last week and the actress accepted his proposal without a second thought.

After flying back to Mumbai, the couple got engaged on Sunday, Jan 14, at the Bachchans’ residence. Only close friends and relatives from both the families were present at the engagement ceremony.

While there is still no word on when the marriage would be, it is being speculated that Abhi and Ash might tie the knot on February 19, 2007, because it has been declared an auspicious day by their astrologer.

Ash, Abhi to pray at a Kerala temple

15th Jan 2007 21.00 IST
By ApunKaChoice

The newly engaged couple will reportedly offer prayers at a famous temple in Kerala next month.

It is no secret by now that Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai got engaged at the Bachchans’ Mumbai residence on Sunday, Jan 14.

Now, even as their wedding date is being speculated, there are reports that the couple will visit Kerala's well-known Sree Krishna Temple in Guruvayoor in early February.

KV Nambiar, president of the Guruvayoor Devasom, is quoted by a news agency as saying that a visit from the Bachchans and Ash and her family was expected in February, but the date has not been finalized yet.

Rumour also has it that Amitabh Bachchan is likely to give an elephant as an offering to the temple.

It is believed that Ash and Abhi might tie the knot on Feb 19. In that case their visit to Guruvayoor will come just days before the big day.

Bapu Deedwania

You may be the most beautiful woman in the world but when it comes to snaring the man of your dreams some divine intervention can never be amiss.

http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/15/200701/Image/160107/Cover_1.jpg Ash on her pilgrimage A fortnight before her liaison with Abhishek Bachchan was formalised, Ash had made a whirlwind trip to the Dargah Sharif at Ajmer and the Bramha temple--the only one of it's kind in India--at Pushkar. Both are renowned as 'siddh' places of worship, guaranteeing wish fulfilment. And now the temple priests at the Bramha temple have disclosed that it was the special mantra which they gave her that made her dreams come true.

“At a special puja conducted in the garbha griha (sanctum sanctorum) of the Bramha temple which was attended only by Aishwarya, her mother, we asked her to chant the following mantra: “Dharmasya dharmarupen brahmarupen pushkaraha naukanam karanarthaya mamah paap kshayaha kuru,” discloses upmahant Sri Sompuriji. Roughly, it translates as: “Just as Bramha embodies Dharma, similarly, the Pushkar sarovar is the embodiment of Bramha so I come to Thee and pray that all my sins be washed away in the sarovar and my wish be fulfilled.”

According to Sri Sompuriji, while this is chanted before the sarovar puja conducted at Pushkar when devotees express a wish, it was specially read out to Rai in the sanctum sanctorum, which is usually out of bounds for most devotees, due to certain circumstances that prevented the actress from visiting the sarovar.

"This puja can only be performed for you, it cannot be performed by you. It is always conducted by mahants of the of Naga sadhu sampradaya," elaborated Sompuriji who will eventually inherit the title of the mahant from the present incumbent Leher Purjariji

According to the priest, Aishwarya has promised that if her desire is fulfilled she would return to the temple to say her thanks.

Here's a lowdown on Ash-Abhi's engagement ceremony at La Mer, and the celebratory dinner at Jalsa that followed

At La Mer
Ad-man Prahlad Kakkar is paying the price for having a famous neighbour. He has watched the Aishwarya Rai-Abhishek Bachchan romance blossoming 'under his building' as they say in Mumbai. (I saw great chemistry happen between them about a year ago," he says.) On Sunday night, all the action was at this building, La Mer. And Prahlad claims that he's now spending a bulk of his time telling the world about it.

"Well, young Abhishek arrived early evening on Sunday and went up to meet Ash's parents," he says, adding with a laugh, "It must have needed some guts for Ash's father is a tough boy and slightly intimidating. He's the chairman of our building and keeps all the watchmen under control… Anyway, Abhishek did go up and ask for the hand of their daughter. Her mother Vrinda's presence must have helped for she is rather fond of him. Her parents were happy, but asked whether he had the permission of his parents. Abhishek told them that he hadn't asked his parents yet, he had come for the Rais' permission first. Afterwards, he went off to ask his parents."

The engagement at Ash's place was a very small, informal affair. Abhishek came over with Jaya Bachchan, Anil and Tina Ambani and Amar Singh. Some of Ash's relatives were also present. Everyone exchanged sweets, and that was that. "I went and met Vrinda later," says Prahlad. "And I found her very relieved. She was happy, and she giggled a lot, much like Ash."

At Jalsa
The engagement ceremony lasted almost till midnight. After which Abhishek decided to throw an impromptu party for a few of his close friends at his bungalow, Jalsa.

"Abhishek was very excited," says Jr Bachchan's childhood buddy Chirag Doshi, who was amongst the first to know that Abhishek had proposed and Ash had accepted. Abhishek SMSed Chirag from New York after proposing to Aishwarya Rai. "When I spoke to him he was very excited, but he didn't want us to talk about it because he wanted to meet Ash's dad before making it public," says Chirag.

Chirag, along with his wife Tanaz, attended the celebratory dinner at Jalsa. "Ash looked visibly happy," he says. "I met Ash the first time when she was shooting with Akshaye Khanna for Aa Ab Laut Chalen. Ash and Abhishek were always in touch with each other since they started working way back in 2000 with Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. They make a fantastic couple."

http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200701/Image/160107/e7.jpg Proud to be pa-in-law: Amitabh Bachchan at a press briefing yesterday
The post-engagement ceremony at Amitabh Bachchan's bungalow at Juhu, was a small and private affair. Only some very close friends, which included Abhishek's close friend Chirag Doshi, Sonali Bendre, Abu Jani, Apurva Lakhia, Sandeep Khosla, Karan Johar, Hiroo Johar, Amar Singh, Kirron Kher, Anupam Kher, Sikandar and Sunil Doshi, were among the guests who were present at the bungalow for dinner. Bottles of Champagne were popped. And a formal lavish dinner was served to all.

Amitabh Bachchan was at his wittiest best and kept cracking jokes. He, of course, had to keep going out of the house to meet mediapersons who had congregated outside. Amar Singh played host.

Jaya Bachchan was also thrilled with the news. "Jaya aunty cooked for all of us. We were served both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. But, of course, the occasion was much bigger than the dinner," says Chirag. Apparently, Jaya made maccher jhol (fish curry, Bengali style), rice, mutton korma, chicken kebabs, dal makhani, navratan korma and payesh (payasam) which is the traditional celebratory dessert of Bengalis.

Abhishek Bachchan had to leave early morning to catch a flight for a shoot. But all the guests hung around chatting and celebrating until almost 5 am.

"Abhishek has left for Jaipur to shoot for Goldlie Behl's film and they are yet to finalise the wedding date. But we all are waiting for the announcement. "Abhishek is not just my buddy, but he is like my family," adds Chirag.
Did Abhishek ever speak about his love for Ash to him? "Now that's too personal and I would not like to comment on it," he replies.

Considering the fact that both Abhishek and Ash are doing reasonable well in their profession, this marriage news would certainly bring some difference in their career? "Not really," he retorts. "They both are superstars in their own right, and they have professional commitments. They will not get married before they are done with their commitments. They are not the first Bollywood couple, we have seen successful Bollywood couples in past, so I am sure that they will be doing many more projects together."

Aishwarya Rai will continue working after marriage to Abhishek Bachchan

Subhash K Jha

Barely hours after the Abhishek-Aishwarya engagement announcement there's widespread speculation about the marriage date and her post-marriage plans. However, there is reassurance from the Bachchan family that the marriage, the date for which will be worked out only after Jaya and Abhishek return from the shooting of Goldie Behl's Drona, will in no way impede Aishwarya's career plans.

"Will Ash continue to work after marriage? Didn't Jaya give it all up at the peak of her career to be Mrs Amitabh Bachchan?" one producer on the verge of signing her for a big action thriller seemed to express the entire industry's anxieties.

However, the family seems keen this time that their bahu doesn't take decisions that she may regret later. So all speculation regarding Ms Rai's future in the movies can be laid to rest. The Bachchans have no intentions of stopping their bahu from working.

Says a source close to the family, "There's absolutely no talk of Aishwarya giving up her career. After Guru she has entered a new performing peak. This is the time when she needs to build on her actor's image. There's absolutely no hint of a closure to her career after marriage, whenever that happens."

Continues the source, "In fact, 2007 is one of Ash's busiest years in years. Apart from two international projects, The Last Legion and Provoked, which are ready for release she's shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha-Akbar. Right after that she goes into Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar 2, followed by a film for Karan Johar's production house. Both feature Abhishek Bachchan opposite her. It would make a lot of practical sense for Ash to do her films with Abhishek. That doesn't mean she'd keep herself exclusively associated with Abhishek professionally. In fact Ash is about to ink another project for producer Gaurang Doshi to be directed by Shriram Raghavan, which stars John Abraham. All these will keep her busy till at least the middle of 2008."

The source, however, claims that Ash will abide by any decision that her future in-laws make for her. "Ash is completely one with whatever Abhishek's parents decide. She's leaving all her post-marriage decisions to them. In fact she has been going by their wishes for some time now, from the time the two got serious about one another," says the source.

'Ash, Abhishek's jodi won't sell'
By: Tushar Joshi (tushar.joshi@mid-day.com)
January 16, 2007 http://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images83/Abhishek-Ash.jpgAishwarya Rai and Abhishek BachchanNews of a star engagement always calls for celebration. But Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s exchange of rings hasn’t really been music to the ears of producers. Now that the couple is engaged, speculation is rife about the wedding date. And according to a reputed trade analyst, this is bad news for filmmakers who have invested in Ash and Abhi.

Box office analyst, Indu Mirani speaks about the impact of the marriage on the industry.

“I don’t see Ash and Abhishek’s jodi working wonders for their upcoming films. I don’t consider Ash to be a good actress. It’s not like Kajol deciding to quit films after marriage and the industry reacting to it with sorrow. I seriously see Ash cutting down on work and throwing herself into family life. She will soon want to have Abhishek’s kids.”

Not quite powerful

There is a strong buzz doing the rounds that Ash may prefer working mostly with Abhishek in the future. Reacting to this, a trade analyst on condition of anonymity says, “Of course, Ash will try and sign as many movies as possible with Abhishek. This will not only give her bargaining power but will also allow her to be close to him.”

At the moment, Ash has two films lined up with Bachchan Jr — Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar 2 and Raaste produced by Sunil Shetty. Apart from that, she’s working on Gaurang Doshi’s Happy Birthday with John Abraham and Jodha Akbar with Hrithik Roshan.

Meanwhile, Mirani says that credit for capturing the chemistry between Ash and Abhishek in Guru goes to director Mani Ratnam. “I think it’s a happy coincidence that several scenes in the film captured their natural chemistry. I give Mani the credit for masterfully capturing their real-life romance and translating it on screen. It has nothing to do with the fact that the two of them are in love.”

When asked if their marriage will monopolise the industry, effectively giving the Bachchans control over which movies the two will sign, Mirani says, “Definitely not. No single family can control the industry. Ash isn’t that great an actress to command big banners to sign her up. Abhishek too has only recently started proving his acting skills. They have a long way to go before they are labelled powerhouse performers.”

When Abhi popped the question…

http://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images83/Abhishek3232.jpgAbhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai attend the New York premiere hand in handhttp://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images83/mani161200712458.jpgDirector Mani Ratnam, Aishwarya and Abhishek at the press conferenceBachchan Junior popped the question to Aishwarya Rai after the American premiere of Guru in New York, confirms the Big B. The couple touched down in Times Square on Friday (post the film’s premiere in Toronto, the night before) and watched Guru together at the AMC Empire theatre.

Prior to the screening, the couple addressed the media where a journalist cheekily asked if there was any news about their engagement.

Abhishek, in his typically droll style, quipped, “I do have an announcement. The film is going to start in 10 minutes!”

Little did the scribe know that AB Jr would pop the question to his ladylove a few hours later!

On another rather catty note, a leading actress called to say that if only Abhi had proposed to Ash after Umrao Jaan’s release, J P Dutta’s film could have been salvaged from disaster! “After all, it was during the making of this film that Cupid’s arrow struck the couple. That’s the least they could have done for J P saab! But perhaps, Mani’s Guru is dearer to them,” she said, tongue firmly in cheek.

Ooooh, how we love such wickedness!

You may be the most beautiful woman in the world but when it comes to snaring the man of your dreams some divine intervention can never be amiss.

http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/15/200701/Image/160107/Cover_1.jpgAsh on her pilgrimageA fortnight before her liaison with Abhishek Bachchan was formalised, Ash had made a whirlwind trip to the Dargah Sharif at Ajmer and the Bramha temple--the only one of it's kind in India--at Pushkar.

According to the priest, Aishwarya has promised that if her desire is fulfilled she would return to the temple to say her thanks.

http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200701/Image/160107/e9.jpgWhere it all began...: Ash-Abhishek in February 2006 at their first public appearance togetherIn one of her earlier interviews to Mumbai Mirror, Aishwarya had said, "Why are you speculating about my marriage? I believe in the institution of marriage. I am a woman and I will get married. I won't hide it from anyone. I am waiting for the right man to enter my life." And the most beautiful girl in the world has kept her promise. The groom's father Amitabh Bachchan officially announced the engagement of Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai yesterday at Jalsa, their Juhu bungalow.

However, this was not love at first sight. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai's relationship evolved over a span of time, with the couple officially dating for a year. A source recalls, "It was in November 2005 that Aishwarya was upset about splitting with her then boyfriend Vivek Oberoi. That was the time when Abhishek Bachchan stood beside her and they started confiding in each other. Yet, they decided not to come into the open with their relationship. Although Ash's boyfriends in the past, (Salman and Vivek) have been vocal about their relationship with Ash, Abhishek played the role of a dignified boyfriend. Ash felt she could depend on him and needless to say that they bonded well." Ash also appreciated the fact that Abhishek respected her feelings. "Unlike Salman or Vivek, Abhishek never spoke to the press about dating Ash. He treated her with respect and was never erratic. He truly had a gentlemanly attitude," says our source.

Years ago, when Aishwarya and Abhishek made their first on screen debut in 2000 with Dhai Akshar Prem Ke Aishwarya had never imagined that she was acting with her future fiancé. Ash's relationship with Abhishek came to limelight when Amitabh's brother Ajitabh revealed to the media in February 2006 that he had gone to Bangalore-based astrologer Chandrashekhar Swamy with the horoscopes of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.

The rumour became stronger when the Rais and Bachchans started visiting temples and dargahs together on a regular basis. "They were advised by the family astrologer to visit all the temples before making an announcement. The Bachchans had accepted Ash as a part of their family," says a close friend of Abhishek.

Last year on Abhishek's birthday, he had gifted Ash a solitaire but asked her not to speak about it to anyone. Ash an extremely private person herself, didn't reveal this even to her close friends. "Ash was shooting with Abhishek in Jaipiur for Umrao Jaan. Later they were together in Rio for Dhoom 2, though she was opposite Hrithik Roshan, and they then they had long schedules in Chennai for Mani Ratnam's Guru. Practically for a whole year they were travelling with each other. Even when they were in India, they were inseparable," says an actor close to the couple.

When Ash visited the Vishwanath temple at Varanasi with the Bachchans, it was evident that they would get married. When we contacted Ash's secretary Hari Singh he says, "I have received 10,000 SMSes and nearly 600 calls from all over India and abroad in last 24 hours. But we are overjoyed with all the good wishes we have received."

Abhishek's marriage date not yet fixed: Amitabh Bachchan
16th Jan 2007 10.01 IST
By Agencies

Abhishek Bachchan proposed to the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai after the premiere of the their film Guru in New York last week, Bollywood mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan has said.

Bachchan added that the date for the marriage has not been decided yet.

"They had gone for the premiere of ‘Guru’ in New York in New York. After the premiere Abhishek proposed and Aishwarya accepted. I was the first person he called to break the news. I was overjoyed and gave them blessings and I asked them to come home soon," Bachchan told a news channel on Monday.

Asked about the marriage date, Bachchan said "not as yet". "Some members of our family are not here now. When they come back we will discuss," he said.

To a question whether aggressive media coverage of their family was "bothersome", Bachchan said he realised that the family was under tremendous public scrutiny. When there was a determined young lot (of mediapersons) following a story "we also keep our commitment to the media and share the information like we did last night".

But, Bachchan said, it was not possible to do it all the time and share all details.

The superstar, who said normally he was hesitant about Abhishek's acting, was generous with his praise for his role in ‘Guru’.

"I congratulated him. This was one action that was marked by excellence and showed the maturity of his performance. It was a tough role every actor would aspire for. It was an extremely commanding performance and he had done full justice to the role abridging a span of 40 years into three hours."

When told his reaction was "humble", Bachchan quipped "factual".

Asked whether he felt lonely today at this happy moment when Abhishek and Jaya Bachchan have gone for a shoot like Aishwarya, he said "I am thankful to the media for keeping company."

"Amitabh Bachchan is so happy with this alliance that he himself called up a journalist and said, 'Congratulations, Abhishek proposed to Aishwarya and she has accepted'," a source close to the family told.

The engagement Sunday evening of Bollywood's hottest couple puts at rest all speculation on whether the marriage will happen or not. Close friends feel that their love has withstood the long, rigorous test of time.

Apparently, some of family members were initially against the match but finally they also came around.

"Everybody - be it fans, media or family members - were against their marriage because of Aishwarya's flings in the past and the myth that she brings bad omen for her boyfriends. They warned Abhishek 'if you marry her your career will be ruined' and insisted that she is very unlucky.

"They tried to dissuade him by talking about their age difference (Abhishek is about to turn 31 and Aishwarya is 33) and that she is a manglik (born under a particular astrological configuration that the superstitious believe is not auspicious for the husband).

But Abhishek didn't listen to anybody and withstood all the opposition," added the source.

Abhishek's first love story with Karisma Kapoor didn't have a happy ending. Before joining films he was dating the actress and they had got engaged too, but they later broke off over reported interference by Karisma's mother, former actress Babita, who didn't want her daughter to marry the then flop actor.

In 2005, Ash came into his life after her break up with co-star Vivek Oberoi . Before that she had had an affair with Salman Khan .

Abhishek and Ash appeared as lead couple in Kuch Naa Kaho (http://www.apunkachoice.com/dyn/movies/hindi/kuch_naa_kaho/), Dhai Akshar Prem Ke , Umrao Jaan and the just released ‘Guru’. In the first three films, their on-screen chemistry failed to impress and the movies sank without a trace. Thankfully, ‘Guru’, released Friday, is making waves at the box office.

"They said that Abhishek should go with Rani Mukherjee because they make a good couple. Some said that their romance is a mere publicity stunt but the fact of the matter is that they were waiting for a hit. Their marriage talk was going on for quite sometime, it didn't happen in the last few days," said the source.

The engagement took place at Bachchan's residence and among those present at the ceremony were Ash's family and industrialist Anil Ambani and his wife, Tina. Close friend Karan Johar was also there. Earlier, the 'roka' ceremony was performed at Ash's house.

Reports had been flying thick and fast for the past few months that an engagement was on the cards, particularly after Ash accompanied Abhishek and his parents to perform rituals at a revered Varanasi temple.

Last February, Bachchan's brother Ajitabh Bachchan had told the media that he went to meet a Bangalore-based astrologer Chandrashekhar Swamy with the horoscopes of Ash and Abhishek.

Apparently, Abhishek's octogenarian grandmother Teji Bachchan is keen to see him married.

Abhishek and Aishwarya choose to maintain a deafening silence
After Hours Correspondent
Monday, January 15, 2007 21:54 IST

Even as the announcement of their engagement pervaded the electronic and print media, both Abhishek and Aishwarya chose to maintain a deafening silence on the matter.

While Abhishek flew off the next morning with his mother Jaya to Rajasthan for the shooting of Goldie Behl’s ‘Drona’, Aishwarya chose to spend some time with her family on Monday before heading for Karjat to shoot for Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Jodha-Akbar’ — thereby leaving all subsequent details, including the wedding date, to the parents.

Says a close family friend, “It’s almost like an arranged marriage, with love thrown in. We all knew Abhishek and Ash were getting close to one another for a long time. But neither spoke about it. And since they’re very private people, we thought it unwise to probe beyond a point.”
But their hands-off attitude has surprised many. “Ash has made it very clear to her parents that all marriage details will be decided by them. The same goes for the Bachchans. For a while now, Ash has been a dutiful bahu at their residence, so much so that Jayaji has completely warmed to her and has been telling friends for a while that Ash will fit wonderfully into their household.”

Now both parties in what will be the biggest wedding of the year are waiting for the parents to get together and select a date. Says a close friend of Ash, “Her dad is out of town. As soon as he returns in a couple of days he’ll be meeting up with Mr Bachchan to decide a date. Both families are eager to lock in on a date.”

Abby-Ash post-wedding party in Rajasthan?

IANS
Tuesday, January 16, 2007 13:26 IST

JAIPUR: Bollywood's hottest pair Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, who were engaged over the weekend, may hold their post-wedding party in Jaipur or Udaipur in February with over 6,000 guests in attendance.

"Representatives of the Bachchan family have started talks with erstwhile royal families," sources said.

The Bachchans are considered close to the erstwhile royal family of Jaipur and chances are that the bash will be held here and be attended by over 6,000 guests, including Bollywood stars, industrialists and politicians.

Sources at the Jaipur City Palace said the Bachchans have expressed a desire to book the palace for a day. Their major concern, however, is security of the high-profile guests.

The Bachchans' representatives are reportedly in talks with five-star hotels on the Jaipur-Delhi highway for accommodation of some guests.

Speculation about the Jaipur do were fuelled after the former queen of Jaipur Padmini Devi met Jaya Bachchan in Kuchaman, where she, along with Abhishek, is shooting for Goldie Behl's film Drona.

The Jaipur City Palace is an imposing blend of traditional Rajasthan and Mughal architecture. The complex was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of the Kachhwaha clan of Rajputs in the early 18th century.

The complex is divided into a series of courtyards, sprawling gardens and buildings. It is home to palatial structures like the Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Badal Mahal, Govind Devji Temple and the City Palace Museum.

Rumours are also rife that Udaipur, the city of lakes, could host post-wedding celebrations.

According to sources, the Udaipur City Palace complex could be the party venue. Part of the palace has been converted into two hotels and another part still serves as the residence of Udaipur's erstwhile king.

But it offers plenty of spots to hold a grand wedding and can accommodate 1,000 to 3,000 guests.

The most popular of them is the landscaped promenade on the shores of Lake Pichola. It offers spectacular views of the lake, island palaces and mountains. The Promenade Jetty is another venue for special dinners and ceremonial occasions that can accommodate up to 2,000 guests.

The island palace of Jagmandir is one of the most exquisite venues for weddings. Jagmandir's garden courtyard can accommodate up to 500 guests.

Udaipur has played host to many big weddings, including actress Raveena Tandon's marriage to businessman Anil Thadani in 2004. Actor Vikram Chatwal, son of United States-based hotelier Sant Chatwal, also held his pre-wedding parties here in 2006.

Two biggest weddings of the year are set to clash in March

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 20:20 IST

If the grapevine is to be believed, the two biggest weddings of the year are set to clash in March

With Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai finally getting engaged, it seems like the much-hyped wedding of the year – that of Elizabeth Hurley to Arun Nayar – may find itself overshadowed.

According to Daily Mail, a clash with Hurley’s plans is on the cards as both weddings are set for late February and March during the same auspicious astrological window for marriages.

Hurley and Nayar are scheduled to come to Udaipur and Mumbai in the first week of March for an Indian celebration with star guests like the Beckhams, Elton John and Hugh Grant. The Ash-Abhi wedding, rumoured to be held at the Grand Hyatt, will play host to the biggest names in the film, business and political world in India.

The British tabloid has quoted a Bollywood insider as saying, “No bride likes to be upstaged and I’m sure Liz is no different. These are two of our biggest stars and they are expected to have a massive wedding - elephants included.”
As far as wedding spoilers go, there’s probably nothing bigger than this one!

Ash: beautiful wife, dutiful daughter, obedient bahu

Brad, Angelina congratulate Aishwarya
Wednesday, January 17, 2007 08:51 [IST]

Celebrity couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have congratulated Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai on her engagement with Abhishek Bachchan.

Pitt and Jolie wished Aishwarya all the best and said "we hope to see her back in Hollywood real soon", Sheeraz Hasan, founder of Hollywood.tv, said in a press release.

Aishwarya featured in the Hollywood film "Mistress of Spices" directed by Paul Mayeda Berges.

Pitt, who came to India to shoot "A Mighty Heart", about the life of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, said that Indians were very loving and spiritual and he and Jolie had loved every minute they spent in the country.

Jolie also showed keen interest in Indian films and said she would love to star in a Bollywood film.

Hollywood's hottest pair had met Hasan at 64th Annual Golden Globes event Monday where Pitt's "Babel" won best motion picture-drama trophy.

Abhi-Ash –The reel story
By IndiaFM News Bureau, January 17, 2007 - 04:07 IST

If one had to put Abhishek and Aishwarya’s story together it would make a perfect script full of surprises, action, and betrayal and of course, a happy ending. Here’s a chronological run down on the utterly romantic story.

Abhishek and Aishwarya first met each other on the sets of Dhai Akshar Prem Ke directed by Raj Kanwar six years ago. They got along fabulously with each other, and even if they were attracted they wouldn’t show it because they were in separate relationships. Aishwarya was dating Salman and Abhishek was dating Karisma.

But destiny played cupid and brought them together again in Rohan Sippy’s Kuch Naa Kaho, just when things started warming up between the two. Aishwarya’s then boyfriend Salman went on a rampage on the sets of Shahrukh Khan’s Chalte Chalte breaking everything that came his way. Unfortunately Kuch Na Kaho too bombed at the box office and once again Ash and Abhishek went their own ways.

After a heated drama Aishwarya breaks all ties with Salman and starts dating her co-star of Kyun Ho Gaya Na? – Vivek Oberoi. Even during this phase Ash kept in touch with Abhishek.

Ash and Abhi continued being good friends. The flipside of this friendship… well you guessed it right, love of course!, With three consecutive films Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2 and Guru, they got loads of quality time to spend with each other and eventually love bloomed between the two. Of course Ash reciprocated his feelings but not before trampling on Vivek’s by just sending him a mere SMS.

And thus started a long saga of rumours Are they dating? Are they married? Is this just a mere promotional gimmick for their films? and so on

It all began with an alleged visit by Abhishek’s uncle, Ajitabh, to Ash’s family astrologer, Chandrashekar Swami, in Bangalore. The venerable Swami, on his part, ratted out details like “Kundali milgayi” (the horoscopes match).

Both families made a series of denials, but alas the story was out in the open

Then came a few hiccups in the story Aishwarya’s mangal dosh and her infamous kiss in Dhoom 2 which reportedly did not go too well with the Bachchans .The mangal dosh was rectified by several visits to temples right from goddess Meenashi of Madhurai to Ajmer dargha. The kissing tale – well the Bachchans forgave their soon to be bahu and hushed up the matter, so all’s well that ends well.

And now the climax of the story Abhishek proposes to Aishwarya in New York, just after the premiere of Guru. FINALLY they are talking!! With a small ceremony and a few selected friends and family the couple gets engaged with the blessings of their family on the festive occasion of January 14, Makar Sankranti.

Do you know Aishwarya and Abhishek well?

Abhishek Bachchan is almost 3 years younger to Aishwarya Rai. Aishwarya is 1973 born while Abhishek is 1976 born.

All the 3 films in which Aishwarya and Abhishek were paired together – Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Na Kaho, Umrao Jaan did not work at the box office. Ironically, the couple that hit it off-screen like fire was blamed of poor onscreen chemistry.

The other two films were they worked together – Dhoom 2 and Bunty Aur Babli were big hits. But in both these films they weren’t paired together. In Dhoom 2 Aishwarya was paired opposite Hrithik Roshan and in Bunty Aur Babli she just appeared in one item number ‘Kajrare Kajrare’ which also starred Amitabh Bachchan.

The duo will come together again in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar 2 and Karan Johar’s next production which will be directed by Tarun Mansukhani. Sarkar 2 will be a Bachchan family reunion of sorts – what with Abhishek and Aishwarya coming together with Amitabh Bachchan.

The duo could have been seen together in more films if it weren’t for date problems. Aishwarya was initially offered the role opposite Abhishek in Bluffmaster. But when she couldn’t do the film, it went to Priyanka Chopra. Coincidentally, Priyanka Chopra lost out the role of Umrao Jaan to Aishwarya.

Aishwarya worked with Abhishek's mentor, J.P.Dutta in Umrao Jaan where Abhishek supported the central character of Ash. Abhishek worked with Aishwarya’s mentor Mani Ratnam in Guru where Aishwarya supported the title character of Abhishek.

Aishwarya has earlier dated Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi. Abhishek Bachchan dated Karisma Kapoor and was also engaged to her for a brief period before the engagement was called off.

Aishwarya was seen in two onscreen smooches. The first one was with Vivek Oberoi in Kyun? Ho Gaya Na! Incidentally that film starred Amitabh Bachchan. The second one was with Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2. Interestingly Dhoom 2 also starred Abhishek but Aishwarya was paired opposite Hrithik. Abhishek too has had his share of onscreen liplocks with Lara Dutta in Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost and Antra Mali in Naach.

Not many know that Abhishek, Aishwarya and Salman Khan starred in one film. It was Raj Kanwar’s Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. Salman, however, didn’t have any scene with Aishwarya. He just appeared in a cameo as a truck driver who gives lift to Abhishek Bachchan.

That's the ring!
By: A hitList Correspondent

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai
You just can’t miss it — the sparkling ring that Ash flaunted when she hugged pa-in-law-to-be Amitabh Bachchan outside Lilavati Hospital.

The newly engaged couple went to the hospital along with Big B to seek blessings of the ailing Teji Bachchan.
This is the rock that Abhishek slipped onto Ash’s finger during the engagement ceremony — a humongous rock that will now put Sushmita Sen’s famous diamonds to shame!

Whopper!

Sources say that Tina Ambani, a close friend of the Bachchans, selected the solitaire on behalf of the Bachchans from a jewellery store in Breach Candy.

Apparently, Tina visited the store just days before the engagement and told the staff that she was buying the diamond ring “for someone else”.

Ring
The size apart, the price is quite a whopper too. A jeweller pegs the ring at over Rs 50 lakh.

Says a source close to the Bachchans, “Everyone in the Bachchan family knew that the engagement would happen in the first month of 2007, so the ring was obviously decided upon a while ago.

The engagement was imminent and the Bachchans were only waiting for the perfect time to make a declaration. Guru’s release couldn’t have been more perfectly timed.”

Home truths

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai
While on Abhishek, there’s intense speculation that he and Aishwarya Rai will be setting up home at Carter Road post their nuptials.

A seafront Bandra property reportedly owned by the Bachchans is a stone’s throw away from where Salman Khan is also building his dream abode, and we’ve been given to believe that this is the place Ash and Abhi will call home.

Nosey neighbours tell us that when the Bachchans eyed this property a few years ago, former fiancée Karisma Kapoor had performed a havan on the premises along with Abhi. Ouch! Seems like AB Jr’s going to have to do it all over again with Ash!

Sponsored honeymoon?

William Charles D'Souza - mumbaimirror

Here's some news that will make most go green. The latest development in the Ash-Abhishek files is that top European tourism boards have been scampering to get the duo to spend their honeymoon at enviable destinations in Europe. What we're wondering though is why will the couple that puts such a high premium on privacy, accept any of these offers?

http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200701/Image/200107/e512.jpgDo we hear right? Abhishek Bachchan wih Aishwarya Rai

The French and Swiss tourism boards, along with the 25-country rail consortium RailEurope, have started making informal announcements through the media that they would love to sponsor the two stars' post-wedding getaway.

Switzerland Tourism is getting into the act by offering the couple a free stay at a "romantic, snow-bound" igloo suite at any one of five places in the highly popular European country, including one at Gstaad. "These cost around 600 Swiss francs per person per night (about Rs 22,500). The igloo has sleeping bags, a private outdoor sauna and jacuzzi," said Ritu Sharma, manager of Indian operations at Switzerland Tourism. Other add-ons include a private whirlpool, a sheepskin rug, hot mulled wine with baked appetisers, cheese fondue and - get this — a private, artistically designed bathroom all made of ice!

And it doesn't stop there. RailEurope would simply love to have Ash and Abhi ride in their scenic trains too. "It would be wonderful to have these two popular stars ride in our trains," said Gopi Iengar, RailEurope's area manager for South Asian countries.

http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200701/Image/200107/e513.jpgBedroom scene: Inside the igloo
The gifts in question are two first-class eight-day passes that allow the traveller to use all forms of public transportation — rail, boat and trams. Obviously these companies didn't give too much thought to why these Bollywood stars would want to hop onto a tram instead of categorically avoiding any means of transport that take them right into the line of public vision.

"We don't know them personally. That's the problem. Hence, we are making an open offer through the media," both the officials said.

Chandrashekar Swamy: Ash, Abhi must wed before March

Last Updated: January 17, 2007 12:38 IST
Chandrashekhar Swamy, the family astrologer of the Bachchan family and now, Aishwarya Rai, is a happy man.
The engagement (http://in.rediff.com/movies/2007/jan/14ash.htm) ceremony between Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya went off smoothly, just like he had predicted. He claims that the wedding will also be a smooth affair and predicts a happy and compatible married life for the couple.
Swamy, who has been a guru for well-known film personalities in Karnataka like Dr Raj Kumar, had matched the kundalis of Abhishek and Ash and had suggested some 'parihaaraas' (solutions to the unfavourable planetary positions) to ward off the unpleasant things found in Ash's kundali.
Ever since Ajitabh, brother of Amitabh Bachchan visited the renowned Bangalore-based swamy last year, his name has been featuring in most of the news reports regarding the year's biggest celebrity wedding.
"Aishwarya Rai had some problems in her kundali but now they have been removed. Things are going to be smooth," Chandrashekar told a local newspaper in Karnataka. "She does not have mangala dasha. The engagement was delayed because the dasha had to be eliminated. I hope the wedding will be held on February 19 as has been advised by me earlier. Conducting the wedding after March may not be a good idea."

Abhi's shadi at Amby Valley?

There is high media speculation about when and where the big fat Bollywood wedding of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai is going to take place.
Newspapers have been carrying details about a five star hotel in Mumbai entirely booked for the wedding. Some had even assumed that it would take place at some palace in Rajasthan.
But a little birdie tells us the wedding is finally taking place at Amby Valley near Lonavla. Subroto Roy, chairman of Sahara Group who owns Amby Valley, is a close friend of the Bachchans. The place will be inaccessible to the public and media that day.
The wedding cards with golden embroidery are reportedly costing the Bachchans Rs 4, 000 per piece. Also, the soon-to-be couple has been gifted a bungalow at Amby Valley called Paradise on Earth, reports indya.com.

This is an exclusive photograph sourced by Viral Bhayani from New York, of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai while they were watching the world premiere of Guru. We don't know what they're discussing, but the chemistry seems to be sizzling. It is said that immediately after seeing the film, while they were headed home, Abhishek proposed to Ash at the airport.

Special prayer for Aishwarya Rai at her birthplace

22nd Jan 2007 10.52 IST
By ApunKaChoice

No matter how big a celebrity you are, blessings of the Almighty are always sought before a special occasion and the case of the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai is no different.

With Ash all set to tie the knot with Abhishek Bachchan , the actress's mother Vrinda Rai has performed a special puja at Nagabana in Sonthady near Kasargod, her birthplace.

The puja was performed Thursday morning by Vrinda in keeping with the traditions of Tulunadu culture is an annual affair, a close relative of Ash said on condition of anonymity in Mangalore on Friday.

All members of the family, except for Ash, took part in the puja to 'moola nagadevata bana' at Sonthady, the relative said.

Ash's father Krishnarajendra Rai arrived in Mangalore from Mumbai Thursday morning and performed puja in the temple of Dharmasthala, he said.

Ash and Abhishek got engaged at a quiet ceremony in Mumbai on January 14. The engagement came about one-and- half-months after the couple, accompanied by mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan , offered prayers at the Varanasi temple.

All eyes turned to Bangalore when Ash's family astrologer Chandrashekhara Swami, based in Mulky, was consulted on the alliance as Ash had 'Kuja dosha'.

The entire Bachchan family along with Aishwarya Rai will be present at the French embassy in New Delhi, on January 27, to witness Amitabh Bachchan being awarded the Legion of Honour award, the highest French civilian award. This incidentally, will be the first time Abhishek and Aishwarya will make a public appearance after their engagement earlier this month.

Even though their wedding date is still to be fixed, newly engaged Bollywood couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are being sought to spend their honeymoon in Europe.

It is learnt that French and Switzerland tourism boards are eager to provide sponsored honeymoon holidays for the couple in Europe.

Swiss tourism, for instance, is learnt to have offered the couple a free stay in an igloo suite that has private Jacuzzi and sauna. The package also includes hot mulled wine, appetizers and other mouth-watering delicacies.

On the other hand, RailEurope wants Ash and Abhi to ride in their luxury trains.

There has also been an offer of first-class eight-day commuters passes for the couple. Using this pass the couple can use public transportation (rail, boat and trams) on their sightseeing trips.

However, as of now, we are still awaiting the announcement of their wedding date.

Abhishek, Aishwarya seek blessings at Vindhyavasini Temple

Mirzapur (UP), Jan 27: The most-talked about Bollywood couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai today sought blessings of the deity at the famous Vindhyavasini Temple here, making their first public appearance together after their engagement.

The Bachchan family led by Amitabh Bachchan, which arrived here to participate in the 51st birthday celebrations of Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, offered prayers at the temple of Maa Bhagwati, seeking her blessings in the run-up to the Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding.

In what is being seen as a pre-nuptial ceremony, Abhishek and Aishwarya performed `parikarama' (circumambulation) of the deity and also performed the `Bhagwati Pooja'. The two were alone in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and they accepted the `kumkum' given to them as `prasad'.

Abhishek applied `kumkum' on Aishwarya's forehead and also applied some on his own forehead.

The two also offered a gold `chhatra' (umbrella), nose ring and anklets during the `pooja' in which besides the Bachchan family, Amar Singh and his wife Pankaja Kumari Singh were present ahead of a function in which 51 couples were united in wedlock on the occasion of Singh's 51st birthday.

One of the 51 couples was also introduced to Amitabh and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav by Amar Singh. Amitabh also performed `kanya daan' at the function.

The priests who conducted the `pooja' said with these prayers the `mangal dosh', said to be afflicting Aishwarya and not considered good for the in-laws, has been removed.

Yesterday, Amitabh in an interview to a TV channel, had described reports about the `mangal dosh' (defect) as "speculation".

Ash's 'sindoor' sparks speculation

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Actors Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan on Saturday made their first public appearance after getting engaged on January 14.

They were seen at a mass wedding organised on SP General Secretary Amar Singh’s 51st birthday in Vindhyachal near Mirzapur in Eastern UP. Abhishek applied sindur on Aishwarya, which is considered a pre-wedding ceremony.

The entire Bachchan family—Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya—was there to cheer him.

But the head priest of Vindhyavasini Temple, Rajan Pathak said, "The rituals were part of a puja. There was no marriage."

Singh, who calls himself superstar Amitabh’s younger brother, is surely cashing in on the celebrity family’s star value ahead of the UP polls.

Late last year, Singh took the Bachchans to the Sankatmochan and Kashi Vishwanath temples in Varansi. Amitabh has visited UP often in the recent times.

With Assembly elections round the corner, the political significance of these trips cannot be ignored. Abhishek was in November honoured with UP’s highest award, the Yash Bharti. Amitabh has been featured extensively in a glitzy campaign showcasing UP.

Singh’s supporters said the wedding of 51 couples was their gift to him. The Amar Singh Fan Club has organised a community wedding ceremony to mark the occasion.

“We decided to organise the mass marriage of 51 girls on the occasion of Amar Singh's 51st birthday,” said Vijay Upadhyay, Amar Singh Fans Association President.

Marriage will not end Aishwarya's career

By Subhash K. Jha, Mumbai, Jan 28 : When Aishwarya Rai got engaged to Abhishek Bachchan early this month there was widespread speculation about her future in filmdom. While her would-be in-laws say they have no problems with her continuing in films, some producers fear she may quit after marriage just like Jaya Bachchan did.

Jaya, after marrying Amitabh Bachchan, had quit films at the peak of her career to become a homemaker.

"Will Aishwarya continue to work after marriage? Didn't Jaya Bachchan give it all up at the peak of her career to be Mrs. Amitabh Bachchan?" one producer on the verge of signing her for a big action thriller seemed to express the entire industry's anxieties.

However, all speculation regarding Aishwarya's future in the movies can be laid to rest. The Bachchans have no intentions of stopping her from working.

"There's absolutely no talk of Aishwarya giving up her career. After 'Guru' she has entered a new performing peak. This is the time when she needs to build on her actor's image. There's absolutely no hint of a closure to her career after marriage, whenever that happens," a source close to the family told IANS.

In fact, 2007 is one of Aishwarya's busiest years in years.

"Apart from two international projects, 'The Last Legion' and 'Provoked', which are ready for release she's shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Jodha-Akbar'. Right after that she goes into Ram Gopal Varma's 'Sarkar 2', followed by a film for Karan Johar's production house. Both feature Abhishek opposite her. It would make a lot of practical sense for Aishwarya to do her films with Abhishek."

That doesn't mean she'd keep herself exclusively associated with Abhishek professionally.

"In fact, she is about to ink another project for producer Gaurang Doshi to be directed by Shriram Raghavan which stars John Abraham. All these will keep her busy till at least the middle of 2008," added the source.

The marriage date, which will be worked out only after Jaya and Abhishek return from the shooting of Goldie Behl's "Drona", will in no way impede Aishwarya's career plans.

"But she is completely one with whatever Abhishek's parents decide. She's leaving all her post-marriage decisions to them. In fact, she has been going by their wishes for some time now, from the time the two got serious about one another," the source explained to IANS.

Daruwalla dispels Manglik rumours

January 23, 2007

http://im.rediff.com/movies/2007/jan/23bejan.jpg
Bejan Daruwalla

The Abhiwarya saga reached a high when Abhishek Bachchan got engaged to Aishwarya Rai earlier this month.

Speculations on the impending marriage have been running rampant ever since, ranging from compatibility to family issues.

Fuelling more speculations is the report that the Mars (Mangal) position in Aishwarya's horoscope has been an issue of concern. Over the past few months, the Bachchans and Aishwarya have been visiting various temples in India, rumouredly to ward off the bad effects of the planet in her chart. Newspapers even claimed she was married to a peepal tree for the same reason.

Noted astrologer Bejan Daruwalla spoke to Priyanka Jain about what the stars have in store for the couple. Excerpts:

You must be aware of Aishwarya and Abhishek's impending marriage.
I had earlier said that the period between November 1 to November 21, 2006 would be the most important phase of Aishwarya's life. It is during this period that she performed the pujas. Ash is Scorpio and Abhishek is an Aquarius. I do not have Aishwarya's personal horoscope so I cannot say if she is a Manglik.

What does Manglik mean?
Mangal means Mars, which is force and energy. This energy can either be positive or negative. There are 12 months in a year so there are twelve signs and therefore 12 houses in the kundali. When Mangal or Mars is in the 12th, 4th, 7th or 8 Th house, it normally, but not always, gives a bad effect, which is why it is called Mangli. If in the partner's horoscope Mangal is in one of the 4 houses then the bad effect is cancelled.

</IMG>But newspaper reports affirm that she is a Manglik...
There are thousands of people in the world who are Manglik, but still lead a good life. There are lots of planets responsible for bad marriage. There is Rahu, Ketu, Shani, Venus, which is the symbol of marriage. Like in cricket there are 11 players and all must play well, likewise there are nine planets. It is the grouping and pattern of the planets, which must be taken into consideration. Other astrologers may feel differently.
So, does a Mangal give bad effects?
There are no guarantees of this. As in life, astrology too is not perfect. It is only 75% correct. Many pundits perform pujas and chant mantras for a Manglik, and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Some people even wear a coral ring for protection, but again there are no guarantees that this will work.
http://im.rediff.com/movies/2007/jan/23abhi.jpgDoes the partner of a Manglik person suffer?
Sometimes. But like I said before, astrology like art and science is not perfect.
If a Manglik girl marries into a family, does the family bear the repercussions?
I don't believe it; it's old fashioned. Modern astrology believes more in positive attitude than in the Mangli. Times have changed. Positive attitude towards life and the effort you in the relationships is what is important.
Is the general perception that people who are Manglik get married late in life true?
There is no proof or research done to support this theory. However, till the age of 28, the effect of Mangal is very powerful. So if you are Manglik, some astrologers say that one should marry only after the age of 28. But even here there is a difference of opinion.
Are you saying that astrology should be believed only for positive things?
One should have positive attitude towards life and one should pray to the Gods. There is a mantra for all planets in Indian astrology.
What is the mantra for Mangal?
Om gan ganpate namah. It is a very powerful mantra.
Is there any guarantee to escape the bad effects?
It depends on your attitude and your willingness to make something of your life. You cannot blame only the planets.

Aishwarya Rai's marriage in a fresh row

03rd Feb 2007 14.00 IST
By Agencies, apunkachoice

The marriage of the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai has been drawn into a fresh row.

A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Patna High Court against Ash for marrying trees to overcome astrological differences with her fiancé Abhishek Bachchan .

Lawyer Shruti Singh, who filed the PIL earlier this week, says the ritual promotes untouchability.

"I filed a PIL to stop such practices as reportedly conducted by actor Amitabh Bachchan for his future daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai. It is in violation of Article 17 of the Constitution, which prohibits untouchability. It also violates fundamental human rights," said Shruti.

Ash is a Manglik (astrologically Mars-bearing), which is believed to have negative consequences for her impending marriage. The actress is said to have married a peepal tree at Benaras, a banana tree at a Bangalore temple and a god's idol in Ayodhya.

According to Shruti, the fact that Ash had to marry the trees and the idol before marrying Abhishek, who is a non-Manglik, amounts to untouchability.

"The rituals performed by Aishwarya, Amitabh and Abhishek would only promote superstitions and blind faith among common people," Shruti, who is also a women's rights activist, said.

Her PIL requests the court to issue a directive to the state government and the Bihar State Religious Trust Board (BSRTB) to stop the practice of marrying a Manglik-born bride first with a tree, god or animal prior to her marrying a non- Manglik man.

She has sought a ban on the performance of such marriages at temples in Bihar including Shitla temple in Patna, Baikatpur temple near Fatuha and the Shiva temple at Deoghar.

The activist has also demanded a public apology from the Bachchan family for asking Ash to enter into such false marriages.

"An FIR should be filed against Bachchan, his wife Jaya and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh for encouraging such practices," Shruti said.

Big B gifts Rs 1.7cr Bentley car to Abhishek
PTI
Monday, February 05, 2007 22:11 IST

MUMBAI: Abhishek Bachchan may have been greeted only with a bouquet by his fiancee Aishwarya Rai on his 31st birthday, but his father Amitabh Bachchan surprised him with a Rs 1.7 crore white Bentley car as a gift.
Aishwarya, who was unable to go to Bikaner to usher in the birthday, was present at the Chhatrapati Shivaji airport to greet him on his arrival in the city.
Abhishek later went for a drive in the new car with his lady love and soon after drove back to the Bachchan residence in suburban Juhu.
Aishwarya's gift, if any besides the bouquet, remains a guarded secret.
"Her gift to Abhishek is too personal and confidential," Aishwarya's secretary Hari Singh said.
Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan along with Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh flew to Junagarh Fort in Rajasthan where Abhishek was shooting his forthcoming film Drona, to cut the birthday cake at midnight.
Jaya Bachchan and Aishwarya could not join them there but were able to meet Abhishek as he returned to the city by evening.
When asked about why Aishwarya did not join Abhishek at Junagarh on the 'D' day, Singh refused to comment saying it was a personal matter.

Ash-Abhishek: What's stitching for D-Day?
Smita Mathew
If sources close to the Bachchans are to be believed, Abhishek and Aishwarya should be tying the knot on February 19th. That gives the couple a few days to finalise their wedding trousseau.

Amitabh confirms Aishwarya, Abhishek engagement (http://xtraedition.indiatimes.com/quickiearticleshow/msid-1202179.cms)

http://xtraedition.indiatimes.com/photo.cms?msid=1571088 While the couple in question and their respective families have kept mum about what the stars will be wearing on their big day and other functions, news has been trickling in. Everyone is already aware that Kolkata based menswear designer Sharbari Dutta is designing few clothes, including kurtas , achkans , semi- sherwanis , dhotis and chadars for Abhishek Bachchan. It has also been reported that Aishwarya’s wedding lehenga will be coming from Benaras.

What would your dream dress for Ash and Abhishek be?

Apparently the Bachchan family has ordered a maroon Benarasi lehenga which has been worked upon by Kasidakari craftsmen of Jaipur and Kolkata and has been handed over to craftsmen of Vishnu Jalan for Benarasi zardozi work. Jalan, a sari showroom owner in Varanasi has already provided 11 saris worth Rs 50,000 to the Bachchan which were later followed by 21 saris. These 21 include georgettes and bandhej apart from benaras in different colours including pink, scarlet, mustard, royal blue and magenta.

Her lehenga has been embellished with pearls, stones, kundan , patchwork, cut work and kasab and is being priced at around Rs. 3 lakhs.

We spoke to designers as to what they would create for the celebrity couple for their wedding. In contrast to the colour of Aishwarya’s speculated dress, all the designers have shown a preference for light, pastel colours and minimalist work.

Designer Manidira Wirk would go for a baby pink lehenga and stay away from any over the top embroidery. “It should not take away from her innocent look,” she explained. The lehenga would be low waisted, to accentuate her beautiful waist and fitted. This would be teamed with a nicely styled choli with not much cleavage but a good back with some work done on it. She would rather go for cap sleeves than any cut or long sleeves. An interesting stole with shading and embroidery and embellished with stones, draped stylishly on Ash would complete the look.
For jewellery, Mandira would prefer that the actress stuck to a nice single piece which is traditional. This, she explained would not take away from her demure and elegant face.
Meanwhile, for Abhishek she advised an off-white, beige or gold achkan with fitted pants and a nice stole. The look has to be classy and very royal, she emphasized.

Leena Singh of the Ashima-Leena fame would like to see Aishwarya in a Madhubala-Meena Kumari combine. Sticking to pastels, she suggests cream and gold for Aishwarya, which she said would compliment her transparent and flawless skin. As for the material, Leena would go in for an original antique brocade with antique zardosi work. This could be accessorized with, once again, old antique Rajasthani Bikaner jewellery and very big payals . For her make-up, Leena suggests that the actress should keep it simple with a red bindi and sindoor and gold shaded lips.
As for Abhishek, Leena would go for a cream brocade sherwani and cream silk churidar .

Ashish of Ashish and Viral Parikh fame who specialize in bridal wear has asked the stars to stay away from bold and bright colours. Aishwarya, he feels, should break away from the traditional and go for a white, beige or any pastel colour. The embroidery along with the colour of her dress should be muted. For jewellery she could go for kundan and other coloured stones which would compliment the pastel colour of her dress.
Abhishek too, he feels should stick to pastels as it would otherwise disturb his combination with Aishwarya and in addition accentuate his heavy shoulders. He suggests a turmeric yellow or pastel pistachio for the actor. Use of silver embroidery work, would also be good as it would compliment Aishwarya’s white. This he could team up with light yellow or ochre stole.

Designer Gauri of Gauri and Nainika fame once again advised Aishwarya to stay away from the usual red lehenga with heavy embroidery and instead go for a plain gold or even gold and red combination, but in softer tones. It must be a simple and minimalist look with little jewellery. The dupatta , she warned better be light and comfortable, or else it would become difficult and cumbersome to carry it. Abhishek, she felt should stay away from boring black suit and instead go in for a sherwani in bright colours, maybe in blue or rust.

Well, the designers have given their verdict, wonder what the stars are going to do about it?

We can't help noticing how even before becoming the bashful bride Aishwarya Rai is already behaving like one. For whenever the actress is in the company of her in-laws-to-be (the Bachchans, for those of you who don't know!) she is always looking demurely down.
Now we know that traditionally the dulhan is supposed to be prim and coy on the wedding day, but since when did Ash become the demure li'l girl, eh? Unless she's been checking out people's footwear and wondering who needs a pedicure!

We all know how religious the Bachchans are. And they travel to every nook and corner of the country to pay their respects to the Gods. Also, they are believers in astrology too if the grapevine is to be believed.

Well, some of their qualities have rubbed on to Aishwarya as well. Of late she's been spotted with a number of expensive rings on her fingers which we hear have been presented by Amitabh to protect her from evil forces and for a happy married life.

Now if you spot her wearing all those rings on her fingers, you’ll know the reason!

Ash-Abhishek preparation in full swing

By Vandana Thakur, Kolkata, Feb 10 : Sharbari Dutta, a Kolkata based men's wear designer, is designing the attire, including kurta, achkans, semi-sherwanis, dhotis and chadars of Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan.

Aishwarya Rai's mother, Vrinda Rai has reportedly placed an exclusive order with Sharbari.

Sharbari says that she has not been bound by stringent guidelines and has been given creative freedom for her designs.

She added that Vrinda Rai has been with her work.

On Abhishek, she said that her cuts, designs and style would definitely suit him.

"Little bit of surprise should be there. So I am not disclosing all the details. But actually they have given me freedom, it is a traditional ceremony, so dresses, cuts and styles will be traditional. And, for the same reason, the colours should be bright. The groom is young. I am quite happy. I am free to create and use any of the colours, style and cut for him," said Sharbari.

She said she would take at least ten weeks to complete the entire assemble.

Hindu body decries Abhishek-Aishwarya's pre-wedding rituals

New Delhi, Feb 11: A US-based Hindu reform body has expressed concern at "astrology-related and similar unscientific rituals" performed by Amitabh Bachchan's family ahead of the marriage of his son Abhishek with Aishwarya Rai.

In a statement from Troy in Michigan, Navya Shastra strongly disapproved the Manglik-related ceremonies performed by the Bachchan family before and after the couple's engagement.

"Astrology and similar unscientific practices should be renounced in marital matchmaking and other everyday activities in Hindu society," said Navya Shastra chairman Jaishree Gopal.

"What concerns us is that millions of people may rationalise their mistreatment of women based upon the Abhishek-Rai example.

"As it is, hundreds of thousands of women -- and even some men -- have difficulty marrying because of the alleged perniciousness of a random confluence of stars," Gopal said.

Aishwarya's Manglik sign (Mars-bearing) is believed to have negative consequences on her impending marriage.

Special pujas were performed at Kashi Vishwanath temple and Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi before the couple's engagement. After the Big B announced last month that Abhishek and Aishwarya were engaged, the family went to Vindhyavasini temple where Manglik-related ceremonies were performed.

According to Navya Shastra, "these actions will have a unhealthy impact on their (the family's) fan base and subject brides-to-be to expiation ceremonies".

Ash need not put career on back burner: Amitabh
PTI
Saturday, February 10, 2007 19:00 IST - DNA

NEW DELHI: Soon-to-be-Bachchan bahu Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai will be a working member of the family and need not quit movies like other actors, according to her would-be father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan.
The Big B, in an interaction with 50 young fans on a news channel, was asked if Aishwarya will continue to work in films after marriage with his son Abhishek.
"I don't see any problem in her wanting to continue her career and wanting to continue acting," he said in the interaction.
Several Bollywood leading ladies, including Aishwarya's would-be mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan have put their acting career on the back-burner after marriage.
And in a lighter vein, Bachchan added, "and if she is going to be acting better than Abhishek, then it's their problem. It's not my problem" and laughed.
About his association with Amar Singh and Samajwadi Party, he said it was personal rather than a political one.
"Friendship... I don't do politics and whatever my association is with Amar Singhji or Mulayam Singhji, it is on a personal... private level," he said.

‘Will they, won’t they?’ is the question on everybody’s lips as Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan prepare for their walk around the sacred fires.

When AB Jr popped the question to Lady Ash soon after the New York premiere of Guru, the timing couldn’t have been more appropriate.

There had been constant speculation about the Guru and his girlfriend having already tied the knot in a temple in Varanasi, so Bachchan responded by making it official but not-quite-at-the-altar yet!

The speculation now continues from the wedding date to the venue, and even their oh-so-expensive outfits. Till the couple actually do get hitched, there’s little to no chance all this conjecture will go away. Do it already, you guys!

Five odds in Abhishek-Aishwarya relationship!
by Debasis Jana

IT

Abhishek is destined to marry a gal elder than him. Remember Jr. Bachchan’s earlier engagement with actress Karishma Kapoor, she was two year older to him; however they haven’t tied the knot finally.

And now whom Abhishek is going to marry, Aishwarya Rai, is also found three years older than him. Abhishek’s born in 1976, February 5 and Aishwarya in 1973, November 1.

We hope the age factor will not create any trouble in their conjugal relationship in future.

Looked odd on screen!

Abhishek-Aishwarya pair has never clicked at the box office. ‘Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’, ‘Kuch Na Kaho’ and ‘Umrao Jaan’ –three consecutive flops; to be frank people never found them that rocking on screen.

Last film Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’ also failed to break the jinx. ‘Dhoom 2’ became a super hit, but in this film Aishwarya’s hero was Hrithik not Abhishek. Abhishek cast opposite Bipasha. In ‘Dhoom 2’, Aishwarya even shot a kiss scene with Hrithik.

In close circle, director Sanjay Gadhvi said people have rejected Abhishek-Aishwarya pair that’s why we didn’t brave to cast them together and cast Hrithik instead opposite Aishwarya. Ram Gopal, as per latest has signed up them together for Sarkar 2.

Odd star!

Aishwarya is mangalik. That’s why whoever will be her life partner; his career will run into turbulence.

According to pundits and astrologers, the mangala dasha of Aishwarya can create lot of troubles in her conjugal relationship.

Aishwarya’s would-be in-laws have taken the predictions very seriously and performed so many corrective rituals at several temples.

Odd old affairs!

Both Abhishek and Aishwarya have had several love affairs, before they finally fall for each other.

Aishwarya-Salman affair, presently they don’t see even each other’s face. Then Aishwarya’s relationship with actor Vivek Oberoi also ended into a split.

It’s said that the split-call was first from Aishwarya’s side; Vivek had nothing to do with that. On the other hand Abhishek Bachchan even was engaged to actress Karishma Kapoor, but marriage didn’t take place due to some family problem.

Besides, Abhishek has been linked up with several heroines and models before her affair with Ash, though he had never admitted that. Will the two now confess the real truth to each other once they get married?

Odd offers!

After marriage, will Aishwarya continue working in films? It’s a million-dollar-question doing rounds now everywhere.

According to insiders, Bachchans being a conservative family hardly will allow their daughter-in-law to do films. Though, Jaya Bachchan has said if Aishwarya wants to do film, they will have no objections.

When asked, Abhishek also echoed his mother’s voice. “It’s absolutely her decision”.

We however have not forgotten the conflict created recently between Bachchans and Aishwarya, after her ‘Dhoom 2’ kiss hit the silver screen.

That's what we've heard, about the Abhiash marriage
http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200702/Image/240207/e362.jpgAbhishek with AishwaryaThe biggest Bollywood wedding cannot remain a secret for too long. The news is that Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are to wed on March 19, 2007 at the Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur.

The wedding will take place soon after Liz Hurley ties the knot with Arun Nayar at the same venue on March 8 and 9.

Sources reveal that Amitabh Bachchan is deeply involved with the wedding and has already given instructions for arrangements on the 15 acres of the palace lawns. The country's prominent politicians and film stars have already been informed about the wedding's venue and date. The source informs, "Mr Bachchan has asked for the gardens to be decorated with special flowers."

Aditya Chopra who rarely makes public appearances will be there at the grand wedding too, along with Amitabh Bachchan's dear friend Yash Chopra. But the biggest news is that Salman Khan has been invited too. According to a reliable source, "Aditya Chopra will attend the wedding, but we are waiting to see if Salman will be there too."

The sprawling Umaid Bhavan Palace is currently owned by His Highness Gaj Singh, the Maharaja of Jodhpur.

The Palace is divided into three functional parts, one having a five-star hotel (in existence since 1972), one is the residence of the royal family and one has been opened to public where a small museum displays pictures, arms, swords, and other items relating to Jodhpur's royal heritage.

Abhishek-Aishwarya marriage: Director Ashutosh Gowariker’s take!

When Abhishek and Aishwarya will be tying the knot, it's not been fixed yet. However the the astrologers already have forecasted their warnings that at no cost the wedding should be delayed much. According to reliable sources, the film-maker has expressed desire of a possible delay in the Ash-Abhi wedding this year.
The director has been pressing really hard for a postponement in the already impending marriage . Ashutosh Gowariker's forthcoming film ‘Jodha Akbar' starring Aishwarya Rai, is currently under the production stage and is slated for a November 9 release this year. The director is keen on having Ash available for the pre-release and post-release formalities of the royal epic. Scene & heard
While the Liz-Arun nuptials and reception have been grabbing headlines, there’s another wedding that promises to be bigger and grander. According to sources, actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are scheduled to tie the knot on March 19.

The print order for the invites, apparently, has already been placed. If the grapevine is to be believed, the cards are so ostentatious that each cost Rs 5000 and could be preserved as a memento. Could we expect anything less from Big B?

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are getting impatient. They want parents to fix a wedding date quickly
http://cms.mumbaimirror.com/portalfiles/1/30/200703/Image/050307/e351.jpgAbhishek Bachchan with Aishwarya RaiFrom what we hear, the much-in-love couple, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan can hardly wait to get married. Thanks to their busy shooting schedules, a suitable wedding date has not been fixed yet.

Amitabh Bachchan says, "We still haven't got a date. The two of them are so busy, we haven't been able to sit down and work it out. Now, Abhishek's schedule (for Drona) is postponed. So I'm hoping we'd be able to sit down and finally, work out a date. But Aishwarya is in Karjat shooting, Jaya has gone off to the Parliament. Everyone is impatient. So are Aishwarya and Abhishek."

Though the two families would like it to be an intimate affair, it will obviously be a grand wedding. "Let's see. I think far too much is being made of this affair. It's just another wedding," he says.

It was a very moving moment when the Big B went up to the stage at the 52nd Fair One Filmfare awards to give his wife the Lifetime Achievement. "I didn't know I had to give a speech. So whatever I said came from the heart. I needed to recollect a lifetime with Jaya to give her the trophy for lifetime achievement. That evening brought out a lot of emotions. My daughter Shweta, who's a really tough girl, was moved to tears. Aishwarya was crying. For Jaya to acknowledge us and Aishwarya's family…was wonderful. The day Abhishek announced Aishwarya was the girl he was going to marry, she became part of our family. I look on Aishwarya as a daughter," he says.

As for the Big B not getting a Filmfare award this year, "I didn't deserve one this year."

For a special directors' preview of Nishabd on Wednesday night, Abhishek Bachchan was moved to tears. He says, "I called all my directors to see Nishabd on Wednesday. Ravi Chopra who's very hard director to please, was deeply moved. People are surprised. They came expecting something else. Abhishek had seen only some rushes earlier on. He had some apprehensions about Nishabd. He doesn't show his emotions that easily. He was visibly moved. He feels my performance in Nishabd is better than Black. Abhishek made an interesting observation. He said I had huge props in Black. In Nishabd I performed without any."

About his very quiet presence in Eklavya, the Big B challenges, "What else would you expect the family's guard to do? My character had to be subservient to everyone in the palace. I've had people ask me how I could be subservient to even Jimmy Shergill in Eklavya. This is stupidity. Long ago I did a film where a lot of young ladies beat me up with a jhadoo. One of my directors was shocked. 'Aapko aise kaise maar sakte hain'. Some fans are already objecting to Nishabd. They're saying my behaviour is shameless. People are missing the point. Isn’t it wonderful that an actor is willing to take up a role like this, no matter how it makes him look."

Finally he brushes off Shah Rukh's comments on AB's friend and brother Amar Singh during the 52nd Fair One Filmfare awards. "Those were off-hand comments made in jest. Such comments shouldn't be taken seriously," he signs off.

Jodhpur out; Ash-Abhishek wedding in Jaipur or Gwalior

By Anil Sharma, Jodhpur, March 6: The wedding of actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai may not be held in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city due to shortage of hotel rooms, and the new possible venues could be Jaipur or Gwalior, informed sources said.

The sources said Jodhpur was found unsuitable since March is the peak tourism season in the desert state. The Bachchans had earlier planned to host the marriage at the grand Umaid Bhavan Palace here.

According to sources in Umaid Bhavan Palace, Bollywood's first family has decided to shift the venue to Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh or Jaipur. The marriage is expected to take place March 19.

"They want to hold the wedding ceremonies in a heritage property. So they are now looking for a city that can provide them with the required setting. Gwalior and Jaipur seem to be the frontrunners," a hotel source told IANS.

Travel industry experts, however, say that finding the required numbers of rooms in Jaipur in March would also be very difficult because of tourist rush.

Even foreign tourists are desperate for rooms in Rajasthan now.

"It would not be easy for anyone to get rooms in March. We are being forced to change itineraries for our foreign clients this month due to shortage of rooms," said Navendu Goswami, a tour operator.

Amitabh Bachchan had earlier sent couple of his close friends to Jodhpur to finalise the hotel bookings in Umaid Bhavan as well as four other hotels. They wanted to book these hotels for a period of three days from March 18.

As directed by astrologers, the Bachchan family is keen that Abhishek and Aishwarya tie the knot as soon as possible.

Umaid Bhavan, however, is currently all set to play host to the wedding parties of Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar. Hurley and Nayar married in England March 3 after which they will host celebrations in Mumbai and Jodhpur. The couple arrived in Mumbai Monday. The couple have booked the hotel from March 7-10.

Aishwarya-Abhishek too busy to fix a wedding date?
By ApunKaChoice

The newly engaged couple is apparently so busy with their movie commitments that they have no time to sit with their parents and fix a wedding date.

Media is full of speculations about their wedding date. Reports even suggest that both Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are themselves impatient to tie the nuptial knot. Then what is preventing them from doing so? Work commitments.

Amitabh Bachchan is reported to have said that everyone in the family wants to see Ash and Abhi married soon, but since the two have been busy with their movie commitments they have not been able to take out time to fix a wedding date.

Abhi has recently been busy with Goldie Behl's movie 'Drona'. Although he is free nowadays because one schedule of the movie has been postponed, Ash is still busy with Ashutosh Gowarikar's project 'Jodha Akbar'. She can't leave the project hanging halfway because a lot of money is already spent on sets and her costumes, and her later dates with co-star Hrithik Roshan may not match.

On the other hand, Jaya Bachchan is in Delhi presently, attending the parliament.

'We still haven't got a date. The two of them (Ash and Abhi) are so busy, we haven't been able to sit down and work it out?I'm hoping we'd be able to sit down and finally, work out a date soon,' Amitabh Bachchan is quoted as saying.

In the meantime, Tourism ministries of several European nations have already begun sending honeymoon invitations to Ash and Abhi.

It appears Abhishek and Aishwarya are not the only ones impatient about their wedding.

Mumbai, March 10 (IANS) Belying overenthusiastic reports of a marriage date for Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan says they are as impatient as others but haven't been able to finalise a day due to paucity of time.

'We still haven't got a date. The two of them are so busy, we haven't been able to sit down and work it out,' Amitabh told IANS, denying reports that they were supposed to marry on Feb 19 or March 19.

'Now Abhishek's schedule for 'Drona' is postponed so I'm hoping we'll be able to sit down and work out a date. But Aishwarya is in Karjat shooting and Jaya has gone off to parliament. Everyone is impatient. So are Aishwarya and Abhishek.'

Though the two families would like it to be an intimate affair, fans and celebrity watchers are expecting a large wedding.

'Let's see. I think far too much is being made of this affair. It's just another wedding.'

It was a very moving moment for Amitabh when he went up on stage at the Filmfare Awards to give his wife the Lifetime Achievements trophy.

'I didn't know I had to give a speech. So, whatever I said came from the heart. I needed to recollect a lifetime with Jaya to give her the trophy for Lifetime Achievements.

'That evening brought out a lot of emotions. My daughter Shweta, who's a tough girl, was moved to tears. Aishwarya was crying. For Jaya to acknowledge us as well as Aishwarya's family was wonderful. The day Abhishek announced Aishwarya was the girl he was going to marry, she became a part of our family. I look on Aishwarya as a daughter.'

As for the Big B not getting a Filmfare Award this year, 'I didn't deserve one this year. I thought Abhishek was far more award-worthy in KANK ('Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna'). I very happily and proudly accept that.'

On stage Jaya had thanked her husband for giving her a home.

Says Amitabh: 'That was a manifestation of a larger socio-cultural philosophy. In our society a woman is uprooted from her paternal home after marriage and put through this whole process of re-acclimatisation in what's known as a 'paraya ghar'. A lot of us don't understand how painful this uprooting process is for a woman. That evening Jaya was acknowledging that whole process.'

For a special directors' preview of 'Nishabd' last week, Abhishek was moved to tears.

'I called all my directors to see 'Nishabd' Wednesday. Ravi Chopra, who is a very hard director to please, was deeply moved. People are surprised. They came expecting something else.

'Abhishek had only some rushes earlier on. He had some apprehensions about 'Nishabd'. He doesn't show his emotions that easily. He was visibly moved. He feels my performance in 'Nishabd' is better than in 'Black'. Abhishek made an interesting observation. He said I had huge props in 'Black'. In 'Nishabd', I performed without props. Again, Abhishek is a hard customer to please.'

On Shah Rukh Khan's comments on his friend and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh at the Filmfare Awards, he says, 'Those were off-hand comments made in jest. Such comments shouldn't be taken seriously.'

Wedding date uncertainties for Jr B and Rai
Cinesouth

For a very long time, the entire Bachchan clan denied any involvement between Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. Finally, when they two got engaged, the family has now started to play hide-n-seek when it comes to the wedding date.

It was rumored that the couple will get married on the 19th of March. But, everything, including the venue now stands changed.

The first choice was the beautiful Udaipur palace in Rajastan. But the family decided to change the venue to somewhere in Madhya Pradesh. Needless to say, the dates are also changed.

This time around, unconfirmed news are on that the marriage formalities will take place on the 7th of April. Nobody is sure about the venue these days.

Meanwhile, Big B is on the receiving end of some ugly protests and oppositions by many women's organization across the country for his portrayal of the role of a 60-year-old man who falls in love with the 18-year-old girlfriend of his daughter. Ramgopal Varma claims that the film is about the internal conflict that the protagonist faces when he realizes that he had fallen in love with the girl.

But many across the country aren't seeing it that way, especially since the memories of the Nithari serial killings are still fresh in the minds. You can actually blame them for not seeing anything artistic about the film. The protestors targeted both Big B and RGV.

They say that an actor of Amitabh Bachchan's caliber shouldn't have accepted such a role.

Capitalizing on a current event, eh RGV?

Wedding of Abhishek-Aishwarya will a big event: re
London, March. 11 (PTI) THE HINDU:

The upcoming wedding of Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will be the greatest marriage in India's modern history and could be as big as that of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, a media report said today.

"With a guest list expected to exceed 5,000, helicopters hired to shower petals over the reception and the astrological charts finally predicting a union that is truly blessed, the marriage of the former Miss World Aishwarya Rai and Bollywood leading man Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Asia's most famous actor Amitabh Bachchan is expected to happen within a month," the Observer reported.

The ceremony, set to be held over 10 days in a private estate on the outskirts of Mumbai and a palace in Rajasthan, is being hailed as a Bollywood fairytale and India's answer to the coupling of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the report said.

"For Indians across the world this wedding will be as big as Charles and Diana's was for the British", Bollywood columnist Amita Ghosh was quoted in the report.

"The question people are asking right now is: why all the fuss about Liz Hurley? Perhaps this is why the media in India have turned against Liz, nobody really knows who she is. Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are our real stars and their wedding is the only one that counts," Ghosh said.

The alluring green-eyed Rai, who is considered Bollywood's top leading lady and has several hit movies to her credit, including Bride and Prejudice, was named one of People magazine's 100 most beautiful people.

Bachchan is the son of the king of the Indian film industry and a star in his own right. Their story has been sold as the tale of two people who found love after a string of failed romances, the report said.

"This wedding is a fantasy come true for many Indians. We are talking about the biggest and most star-studded guest list in Bollywood history. The couple have a hit film out in which they star as husband and wife, but this is only the start," Ghosh said.

The columnist said the marriage of two such mega brands from Bollywood will result in a 100 million dollar "payday for both couples from spin-offs."

To Be Mrs. B
So what do you think about the Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan engagement?

By: Sumita Sheth

After months of rumor, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are formally engaged, sending their Bollywood fans into a tizzy. Speculation is now rife in the world of "Abhishwarya": Will the wedding be held on Feb 19 or Mar 5? Will the married couple move into the house supposedly originally bought for Abhishek and Karisma Kapoor? How will the Kapoor clan react? Will Aishwarya's purportedly manglik horoscope bring ill luck to Abhishek and destroy his career, as it did to her former beaus?

Until recently, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are two people few would have ever thought of pairing in a real life romance. Their (flop) movie together, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (2002), convinced the public that they hardly deserved to hold hands in the reel world, let alone say "I do" anywhere else. It's likely the two never saw merit in an off screen, larger-than-life romance after their initial box office failure.

Instead, in the intervening years, Aishwarya went through a tumultuous relationship with the purportedly abusive Salman Khan. Then Vivek Oberoi came to her rescue as her knight in shining armor only to leave after another messy ending. Abhishek had his own engagement-and-then-breakup debacle with Karisma Kapoor over an alleged prenuptial agreement, followed by speculation about people's choice Rani Mukherjee as the bahu to be for the Bachchan khandaan. Tradition tells the world that Rani is presumably perfect, because she hails from the same state as Abhishek's mom and brilliant actress Jaya Bachchan (nee Bahaduri).

In early 2006, following the especially spiced-up buzz over how AB's Baby (the unkind term coined for Abhishek as he stumbled around trying to find his feet in the movie industry and only seemed to have his father Amitabh Bachchan for identity) went crazy waiting for and doting on Aishwarya at his birthday party, there was a media storm about Abhishek and Aishwarya's janam kundalis, birth charts, being compared. However, when nothing materialized, it was whispered that their stars did not align and a lull followed.By the end of 2006 though, things appeared to be in high gear again, despite Aish and Abhi's continued semi-tepid pairing on the big screen - nothing matches the flames that erupt onscreen between Aish and Sallu in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Post the cult success of the "Kajra Re" song special of Bunty Aur Babli where Aishwarya Rai wowed the world with Abhishekh Bachchan and his father, Amitabh Bachchan, and Umrao Jaan where the duo starred opposite each other once more, stories started to fly everywhere.

With the declaration of their engagement right after the New York premiere of Guru, their latest movie together, we now know that rumors of the Bachchan family astrologer declaring 2006 inauspicious for their pairing were obviously true. 2007 is the auspicious year when they will actually tie the knot. And it is apparently the right time in their careers too, for while Aishwarya has continued her steady rise, AB junior too has found a strong footing in the Indian film industry, with his own acting style - reminiscent of, and yet so different from, his father's - his own niche, his own unfailing following (just witness his searing performance in Guru) that is not to say there aren't eyebrow-raising issues on both sides. Aishwarya has been accused by gossip columnists of not liking a failure, but we can see that Abhishek is certainly in no danger of being that anytime soon. At the same time, marriage to Abhishekh is supposed to go hand in hand with a prenup for his spouse that she will stop working in movies post marriage. However, with recent, markedly unkind, articles asking how much longer she can hope to play the leading lady after turning 33, Aish may not necessarily balk at such a proposition. Both parties have had their share of heartaches and a lot of whispered he-said, she-said. Perhaps it is only fair that they should finally find compatible love and some peace from paparazzi and rumor mills.

Alas, not before we overseas Indians get to express our thoughts on the union.

Ruchi is an evolved, architect-in-training based out of New York. But you had better not pick an argument with her, because you will lose!

The first thought that ran through my mind at the news was amazement at the media frenzy. Why is everyone so into their business? It's sad how a lot of people get caught up in the lives of strangers. I don't even understand why and how it happens! Most people hate getting critiqued on their lifestyles and choices, especially by strangers, so why should anyone (except the immediate circle of loved ones) discuss Aishwarya and Abhishek's wedding? Sigh...OK, I'm being a little silly and extreme, but it just really irks me how the local news seems to focus more on Madonna's "new accessory" or "Brangelina" than anything else. Who cares! Or nobody should care. This shouldn't be in the news. Then we wonder why the "stars" behave haughtily or why they find the need to protect their privacy.

S.B. is an artist with a warm heart and talent galore.

I am glad for the two in question, but I can't help wondering why or how a seemingly down to earth guy like AB would end up with a person like Aish. She does seem way too fake and narcissistic for him. I am very disappointed, but wish him well and hope that this won't affect his performance.

MR loves all things fashion!

Well, this is what I think. She is beautiful and he is so-so. I don't know if I want what I say published with my name attached, in case they come running after me. However, it is almost shocking that she is marrying him, seeing how incredibly beautiful, talented and well spoken of a person she is. I think she could do much better and be with someone much more sophisticated, and perhaps someone non-Bollywood connected.

At the end of the day, stars, actors, celebrities, are regular, ordinary souls living in an extra-ordinary world. I think we should give them their space and privacy. Especially now that they're engaged, it's a beautiful time that they deserve to enjoy together, alone. I am happy for them (Aish, Abhishek).Let's leave them alone and let them do their work.

I have a lot of thoughts on this topic. I have been following the many rumors about the two of them and I was way excited by this announcement, because I like both of them. I did wonder if the recent hype was because of their movies together, but obviously, with this engagement, it's based on the truth. Of course, the timing of the rumors didn't hurt the box office sales. I must admit last night I was googling to find out details and if a statement had been made by Amitabh.

I still wonder about Abhishek and Karisma's break-up and what the reason was. I heard it was because of a pre-nup and she was asked to quit movies. I wonder if Aish would do that. I also thought Aish and Salman were a great couple, but there was too much melodrama. I thought Abhishek-Karisma and Aish-Salman were better suited together for each other. But of course, I know nothing about them and how they got along, etc. I also think they have a right to keep their lives private and not disclose things till they want to. But they can't blame us for being curious and interested.

I can see why the family want her to be the one, and so it could be more their choice than his. She is older than him, but she is still young, in her early thirties. I think she made a smart decision as opposed to the Sridevis, Madhuris, Rekhas and Hema Malinis. This is a good match, this is the right age to get married. She is going to stay where she belongs instead of mysteriously fading away, hopefully!

I think the Bachchan last name suits her. You wonder if a heroine can change her name. In this case I think she will. If I were Amitabh and had to pick a bahu for Abhishek she would undoubtedly be the one, except maybe for Priety.

The Ash-Abhi marriage. It would be interesting to know about what's happening, but it is their personal life and we are being bombarded with details about their every move by the Indian news channels. At the end of the day, I take it that if I have my secrets in my personal life and I get famous, I don't want them to come after me and make my life tough, just to satisfy public curiosity, sell papers. I can also see how it would be embarrassing for the two of them if things don't work out after the hype. Good to see them get married. They look good together.

I always thought Aish was better off with someone like Salman Rushdie than Salman Khan. In this pairing, she'll be tops and torture poor Abhishek. Who knows what's he's into though? Perhaps Abhishek enjoys that kinky stuff.

Scene and heard
Just as reports on one wedding celebration die down, news about another starts flying thick and fast. A report in the Guardian proclaims the Aishwarya Rai-Abhishek Bachchan wedding will be ‘greatest in the nation’s modern history’.
With a guest list expected to exceed 5,000, helicopters hired to shower petals over the reception and the astrological charts finally predicting a union that is truly blessed, the paper claims that the marriage of the former Miss World and the son of Asia’s most famous actor Amitabh Bachchan is expected to happen within a month.
It goes on to say that the ceremony, set to be held over 10 days in a private estate on the outskirts of Mumbai and a palace in the northern state of Rajasthan, is being hailed as a Bollywood fairytale.
“For Indians across the world this wedding will be as big as Charles and Diana’s was for the British,’ Bollywood gossip columnist Amita Ghosh is quoted as saying. “A marriage of two such mega brands from Bollywood will result in a $100m payday for both couples from spin-offs.”

April 7,the new Ash-Abhi wedding prediction date

The constant speculatons, predictions etc continue for the highly anticipated Ash-Abhi wedding date. While the Bachchans claim that no date has been set yet,the predictions continue to come in.Earlier it was predicted that March 19 would be the big day,but now it seems that as the day approaches and there seems to be no wedding plans in the offing, the date has changed to April 7.However no confirmations have been made by the Bachchans yet.

Since March 19 will be a day of eclipse, astrologers have completely washed out the prospect of the Ash-Abhi wedding taking place on that day as it is considered inauspicious to do so amongst certain communities.Earlier it was also being said that the wedding would take place in Jodhpur, but now again it seems that the wedding will supposedly take place in Udaipur.Again however the Bachchans have not confirmed the place for the wedding yet. Well no doubt this added mystery of speculation and predictions will continue till a wedding date is confirmed.

Abhishek-Aishwarya to wed in April?
By Indo Asian News Service

Mumbai, March 19 (IANS) Will they or won't they marry next month? Rumours are rife that Bollywood's hottest couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will tie the knot on April 19 at the Bachchan residence Prateeksha here.

However, a source close to the family denied an imminent wedding. 'It is just a rumour, nothing else. People are saying that the cards are ready and that the date and venue are already decided, but there is no truth in these claims,' he said.

Since the two stars got engaged in January, wedding-date rumours have persistently dogged the pair. The Bollywood grapevine had it that they are tying the knot on Feb 19 and when it didn't happen on that day, they put forth March 19.

Abhishek's superstar dad Amitabh Bachchan has said the family is as impatient as others, but haven't been able to finalise a day due to paucity of time.

'We still haven't got a date. The two of them are so busy, we haven't been able to sit down and work it out,' Amitabh had said, while denying reports that the wedding was supposed to take place on Feb 19 or March 19.

Abhishek and Aishwarya are busy shooting for 'Drona' and 'Jodha Akbar', respectively.

Bachchan, Aishwarya world tour postponed due to wedding
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News service

Mumbai, March 25 (IANS) The eagerly-anticipated 'One Amazing Night' world-tour featuring Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan with Aishwarya Rai, plus a host of top notch stars, has now been postponed from August-September 2007 to mid 2008.

Confirming this rather surprising development, Amitabh, told IANS: 'Yes, we've to shift the proposed concert to next year because of Abhishek and Aishwarya's wedding. They've a jam-packed schedule this year. With the wedding also happening it would be impossible for them to leave for two months. We've to give them time to finish their other commitments.

'This year they don't even have time for any rehearsals. That apart, the concert tour plans remains unchanged. It's still the three of us, plus a lot of our colleagues.'

Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra are some of the stars who would be accompanying the Bachchans for the world tour, designed as the most spectacular staged event from the Mumbai film industry of all times.

Amitabh, now busy with Rituparno Ghosh's 'The Last Lear', says: 'I don't know about that. But we'll certainly work towards making it a memorable experience. Right now we all have other things to worry about, including the wedding.'

Fresh dates for the Abhishek-Aishwarya marriage continue to be speculated in the media.

'We don't know where these dates come from. Media persons, astrologers and numerologists seem to know more about our plans than we do! As far as we are concerned, we still haven't zeroed in on a date for the wedding.'

MUMBAI: Bollywood's most talked about pair -- Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai -- will take the plunge into matrimony on April 20 in a "small, intimate affair" without the trappings of film industry weddings.

Unlike the recent Liz Hurley-Arun Nayar wedding, where the paparazzi went berserk, the Abhi-Ash marriage will be a very private affair at the Bachchans' home Prateeksha in Juhu, sources close to the couple said on Tuesday.

"The families met and a decision has been taken on the date," a source said.

"It will be a small family affair attended by close friends like Anil and Tina Ambani and Amar Singh. The ceremonies are likely to be spread out over three days, culminating in the marriage on April 20," the source said.

Only the Bachchans' close friends -- who could be as few as 15 -- will be invited to the wedding.

Speculation about the date and venue for the marriage has been rife since Abhishek, 31, and Aishwarya, 33, got engaged on January 14.

The Bachchans and Aishwarya consistently denied all reports about a date for the marriage but on Tuesday, the actress' manager Hari Singh said he could neither confirm nor deny the news.

Sources said the wedding will be held on April 20, the Akshay Tritiya, considered the year's most auspicious day by most Hindus. The wedding date was apparently advanced because of the condition of Amitabh's mother Teji, who is being treated at Lilavati Hospital here for some months.

Since rumours of the Abhishek-Aishwarya romance began floating from the sets of their film "Umrao Jaan" in 2005, the couple has consistently maintained silence and refused to speak about the relationship in public.

After their engagement, they were seen in public, hand in hand, and visited various temples to perform poojas, but it was Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan who did the talking on the forthcoming union.

Former Miss World Aishwarya, described as a "simple" and "domesticated" girl by Amitabh, is said to be "manglik" and had to make trips to several temples to nullify the bad omen.

At a recent awards ceremony, Jaya gave an emotional welcome to her future daughter-in-law.

"She has a beautiful heart and a beautiful smile and I welcome her into the family," she said, bringing tears to Aishwarya's eyes.

Abhishek's very public engagement with actress Karisma Kapoor ended in 2003 while Aishwarya's relationship with Salman Khan was the talk of tinsel town before they broke up. She was also linked with Viveik Oberoi.

On screen, the couple did not have much luck with films like Kuch Na Kaho and Umrao Jaan, but their latest movie, Mani Ratnam's Guru, was helped to a large extent by news of their engagement on the weekend of its release.

Abhishek had in fact proposed to Aishwarya while on a trip to New York to publicise Guru. Aishwarya was crowned Miss World in 1994 and then entered the world of films.

Abhishek has gone from being known as Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan's son to carve a niche for himself in Bollywood by delivering knockout performances in films like Yuva and Guru.

The couple is currently busy fulfulling their commitments, with Aishwarya wrapping up Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodha Akbar and Abhishek filming Goldie Behl's Drona.

Reports of their marriage first emerged when the couple sought blessings at Vindhyavasini Temple soon after their engagement. In what was seen as a pre-nuptial ceremony, they performed parikarama (circumambulation) of the deity and the Bhagwati Pooja.

A Kolkata-based designer in all likelihood will design the groom's wardrobe. Aishwarya may ask her favourite designer Neeta Lulla to kit out her wedding dress. Or it may be Abu-Jani, whose rich designs have cast a spell on Amitabh-Jaya, sources said.

It's not just Bollywood that has been affected by the film industry's most anticipated wedding in recent years. British filmmaker Gurinder Chaddha, who is expecting twins later this year, has decided to name them after Abhishek and Aishwarya if it is a girl-boy pair, a newspaper reported.

Aishwarya will continue to work in movies after her marriage, though Amitabh is often heard saying that "it is up to Abhishek and Aishwarya to decide whether she wants to work or not".

A wedding to last two years only
I-Blitz Exclusive

According to most acclaimed Bangladeshi astrologer and religious thinker, Panna Choudhury, marriage between Big-B’s son Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwaria Rai will come to an end in just two years. “This is an odd match and there is no chance of the couple of living under the same roof for more than two years”, said the predictors. The couple will separate as their characters are in contrast. Moreover, Aishwaria still continues hidden relations with two of the top figures in Bollywood, which will become one of the major issues for her husband to become irritant. It may be mentioned here that, Aishwaria is three years elder than Abhishek. Aishwaria entered the showbiz world after winning the crown in Miss World contest in 1994.

The Ceremony: The wedding of actor Abhishek Bachchan with Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai is likely to be held on April 18.

Though there was no official confirmation, sources close to Abhishek's family said the marriage is expected to be solemnized on April 18 at Prateeksha, the bungalow of his father Amitabh Bachchan.

Abhishek is currently shooting for his friend Goldi Bhel's movie 'Drona' and Aishwarya is busy with the shoot of 'Jodha Akbar' directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar.

The rights for covering the mega wedding have reportedly been sold to an international media house.

A classical singer from Varanasi is currently on an extended practice session these days in preparation for the most talked about marriage of Bollywood couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.

Channulal Mishra said that he has been invited by Amitabh Bachchan to perform at Abhishek's wedding.

"Amithabh Bachchan said that he wanted to organize a program on the occasion of the wedding of Abhishek and Aishwarya. He said the date for the wedding was not fixed, but I have come to know that it will be sometime in April," Mishra said.

Families of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai recently said that both had got engaged at a private ceremony. Abhishek reportedly placed a diamond ring on Aishwarya’s finger.

Speculation of a formal link gained ground after both families visited several temples to pray for them, as their stars were reportedly not in harmony.

Reports of an impending marriage were earlier fuelled after Ajitabh Bachchan, the younger brother of Amitabh, who met a Bangalore based astrologer Chandrashekhar Swami, to see if the couple’s horoscopes matched.

The planets also seem to be blessing the couple. They were declared to be perfect by matched by the astrologer.

Abhishek’s past romance: Abhishek was earlier engaged to Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor in 2002, but the marriage was called off for unexplained reasons. He was also reportedly having ‘close affairs’ with Karishma’s younger sister Karina Kapoor, after his former girl friend Karishma married a local businessman.

Other Bollywood actresses, with whom the young Abhishek either had romantic or initimate relations are, Rani Mukherjee, Preeti Zeinta and Dimple Khanna.

Abhishek (30) and Aishwarya (33) have starred together in Hindi films like Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Na Kaho, Umrao Jaanand Dhoom II as also Mani Ratnam`s Guru.

Aishwarya, who has acted in over 40 films, was crowned Miss World in 1994. Abhishek too has acted in about 40 films.

Implicit in recent statements by Bachchan family members that it is up to Aishwarya to decide whether or not she will continue her film career after her marriage to Abhishek, is the suggestion that there is a case for her not to. At 33 years of age the former Miss World (1994) is already at the wrong end of her child bearing years.

Aishwarya has around 9 films lined up in various stages of production. After the recently released Guru, she will next be seen in The Last Legion, a Hollywood period drama made at a cost of $67 million.

Two other important films in production are Jodha-Akbar in which she is paired opposite her Dhoom 2 co-star Hrithik Roshan and Sarkar 2 opposite fiancé Abhishek Bachchan.

Following Sarkar 2 she will once again appear opposite Abhishek Bachchan in an as yet untitled film to be produced by Karan Johar and directed by Karan's former assistant Tarun. The film may well mark her final screen appearance.

Aishwarya may take an up to 2 years to wrap up her current assignments. The imperative to start a family soon after that will be strong.

Whether Aishwarya thinks otherwise will be known soon. It is being reported that Writer Director Rituparno Ghosh is keen to sign her up as the lead for an English language film that will star Amitabh Bachchan. Shooting for the film is expected to start in Feb 2007.

In the past Rituparno has written and directed critically acclaimed films such as Raincoat, Choker Bali: A Passion Play and Shubho Mahurat which won a silver lotus in the National Film Awards 2003. It will be difficult for Aishwarya to pass an opportunity to work with a renowned director like Rituparno in a film starring the Big B. We don't think she will be tempted but if she does we will know that her priorities lie at home.

Now, people of India as well fans of the couple around the world are eagerly waiting, when Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwaria Rai would get married. Journalist Amita Ghosh has described their marriage equal in grandeur to that of “Prince Charles and Diana.” People are searching on the net about Aishwarya’s saari or her engagement ring or other news related to marriage; but every story is not a very happy story. The Abhishek Aishwarya marriage may look very gorgeous and glamorous but the couple had to go through a tough time. It is not an all “HUNKY DORY LOVE JOURNEY” for them.

The first major problem that the couple faced was their horoscope. Aishwarya is a manglik woman. According to the astrologers, she was born “under a poorly placed Mars.” For this reason, she could bring bad luck to her husband. Many believe that Salman Khan’s downslide is mainly caused by Aishwarya Rai. Even Vivek Oberoi is now not doing that well. World’s most beautiful woman is a major cause of bad luck!

Then there is the problem of age difference. Abhishek is thirty years old and Aishwarya Rai is thirty three. This is a serious issue because in India the norm is the bride has to be younger than her groom. So many people were not happy with this relationship.

Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan’s mother, was not happy with Aishwarya Rai earlier. She wanted Aishwarya Rai stop working after marriage and Rai did not agree. Aishwarya Rai attends all the pujas and major events with the Bachchans. Her hard work finally paid off and Jaya has accepted her.

Another hoopla started over Aishwarya and Hrithik kissing scene in Dhoom 2. Reports say that Amitabh Bachchan did not like her future daughter-in-law's lip locking on the screen. He used his influence and censored the scene. Even Abhishek Bachchan was very unhappy because he was not informed about this in the first place. Abhishek even stopped talking with Hrithik because of this kissing scene. The stink of the matter was that after this news got published, people became more interested and the kissing scene video clip is now all over the internet. I do not know what has really been achieved by doing this. Abhishek Bachhcan also did kissing scene but it was not a problem.

According to a report published in India Daily, Aishwarya Rai is involved in foreign currency racketing. She gets large amount of euros from unknown sources. The custom authority questioned her about the money.

The moral of the story is all that looks glamorous and beautiful may have some faults or glitches. Aishwarya Rai had to go through a tough time to establish herself as an actress in Bollywood and finding a man to spend her life with. On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan also had to fight for his place in Bollywood and his love. Being Amitabh Bachchan's son did not give him much advantage. The two fell in love but they had to struggle to take their relationship to the next stage. In film world divorce is very common.

Ashwariya Rai and Abhishek have been doing movies together since 2000. Their first movie was Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. At that time Abhishek Bachchan was a struggling actor and Aishwarya Rai was a successful actress. Abhishek Bachchan was engaged with Karisma Kapoor. The two were just friends. From 2000 to 2006 Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan worked in different movies but they remained friends. Rumors of their romance started to spread after they worked in Bunty Aur Bably. In this movie, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan appeared in an item song “Kajra Re.” It was the best song of 2005. During the IIFA Award ceremony in June 2005 in Amsterdam, Abhishek, Aishwarya Rai, and Amitabh Bachchan performed on the stage.

In the beginning, neither Aishwarya Rai nor Abhishek Bachchan talked about their romance in public. Rumors of their marriage started to spread as Amitabh Bachchan’s young brother, Ajitabh Bachchan went to an astrologer, Chandrashekhar Swami in Bangalore with their horoscopes in January 2006. The astrologer said that their match is alright and the sooner they get married, the better. Later in October, the astrologer said that the two would get married in 2007.

In 2006, Ash Abhishek relationship was ripened. They signed movies together. On Abhishek’s birthday in February 2006, Aishwarya and Abhishek danced all evening.

Abhishek Bachchan may have born with a silver spoon in his mouth but he had to struggle a lot to establish himself as an actor in Bollywood. In case of love, there was no difference. After few bumps he finally found his lady love, Aishwarya Rai.

Like Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan was also romantically linked with few women in the industry. His romantic relationship with Karisma Kapoor got huge attention from the media. Both Abhishek and Karisma belongs to two great acting families in India: the Kapoors and the Bachchans. Abhishek and Karisma met and fell in love while shooting Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya. In his first movie, Abhishek Bachchan was paired up with Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor’s younger sister.
Abhishek and Karisma liked each other and on the 60th birthday of Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek also gave his formal engagement announcement. While every body was eagerly waiting for the marriage in January 2003, Nitu Singh, wife of Rishi Kapoor, said that the engagement has been called off. She did not mention why. Various speculations were made. Karisma’s mother, Bobita did not like the idea that her daughter has to stop acting and neither did Karisma. Hence, the engagement was called off. After this incident, Karisma Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan appeared in a Fiza, Hrithik Roshan’s second movie. During the movie, Karisma did not talk with Jaya Bachchan.

Ash becomes Bachchan on April 20!
By: Upala KBR (upala@mid-day.com)
March 28, 2007 http://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images87/abhi2803.jpgSamjho ho hi gaya! Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai An official statement from the Bachchans is still forthcoming, but insiders from the Bachchan camp confirm, “Abhishek and Aishwarya are tying the knot on April 20.”

An informer further reveals, “There will be three functions: a grand sangeet, followed by the wedding and finally the reception.

All three functions will take place at Jalsa and will be spread out over a week.”

The guest list

The wedding ceremony on April 20 will be a simple and private affair, with no more than 200 guests from both sides. Besides immediate family, other big names include Amar Singh (naturally), Tina and Anil Ambani, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Subroto Roy.

The invitations

The wedding invitations have still not been sent, but close friends of the Bachchans have received personal calls from Amitabh and Jaya requesting the pleasure of their company on the auspicious day.

Meanwhile, Aishwarya’s brother Aditya has taken the responsibility of inviting guests from the bride’s side.

The sangeet

The sangeet is going to be a grand affair. A list of songs have been drawn up and delegated to close friends of the happy couple, who will perform them amid much fanfare.

Apparently, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has included several songs from Aishwarya’s favourites list. The songs will be choreographed to depict various stages of Ash and Abhi’s courtship.

In true Bollywood style, Shweta Bachchan will also be performing at the sangeet.

Interestingly, the song Goonji si hai saari hawa from Kyun? Ho Gaya Na was immediately struck off the list when it struck one of the couple’s friends that the song had been picturised on Ash and former flame Viveik Oberoi!

Boys night out

What’s a wedding without a bachelor party? And so Abhi’s good friends Rohan Sippy, Sikander Kher and gang are planning an elaborate night of fun.

We’re not sure if it will be a raunchy, hedonistic blast, but knowing these boys, anything is possible!

No presents, please

Abhishek and Ash have given strict instructions to family and friends not to get them any presents on the big day. ‘Only your blessings will be accepted,’ is their refrain.

Aishwarya Rai definitely not quitting films

27th Mar 2007 23.26 IST
By ApunKaChoice

All the speculation about Aishwarya Rai quitting films can take a beating.

Whether her marriage with Abhishek Bachchan is impending or not, Aishwarya Rai will continue to work in Hindi film industry. This has allegedly been clarified by the actress’s secretary.

Her wedding may put her Bollywood career on the backburner for some time, but quitting films is not on the cards for Ash as her family and the Bachchans both approve of her acting profession.

In fact, Amitabh Bachchan has clearly said that it is solely upon Ash and Abhishek to decide whether she should continue to act in films after her marriage.

Filmmakers like Ram Gopal Varma and Vicky Singh are heaving a sigh of relief. Ash is slated to do Sarkar 2 with Varma and Raaste (produced by Sunil Shetty) with Vicky Singh.

Moreover, it is reliably learnt that Ash is also considering doing a film with John Abraham . Filmmaker Shridhar Raghavan has reportedly approached her for his movie ‘Happy Birthday’ with John.

Meanwhile, there are fresh rumours about marriage between Ash and Abhi. This time grapevine suggests that the two lovers will tie the knot on April 20.

Aish-Abhi wedding on April 20
Cinesouth

For all those people who were eagerly waiting to find out about Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan and their wedding plans, here comes some kind of confirmed news.

The most hyped and publicized couple is getting married on the 20th of April this year.

The venue has caught everybody by surprise. After lengthy speculations about Jodhpur and Gwalior palaces, the Big B's and Rai's have decided to choose a much simpler venue- Bachchan's Mumbai residence.

The wedding is going to be a very low-key affair with only close family members and friends in attendance. So, you can forget those Rs 5000 wedding invitation cards that everybody was talking about a few weeks ago. There will be a lavish wedding reception where members of the political and film fraternity will turn up in large number to wish the newly married couple. The Bachchans haven't confirmed anything about the reception either.

Let's wait for a formal word from the members of the family.

Aishwarya Rai has made her mind up about post-marriage career- she intends to continue acting. Her in-laws-to-be have no problems with it. The actress however might get more selective about her roles.

Filmi frenzy over Abhi-Ash wedding plans

New Delhi, March 28: Media reports of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan planning to tie the knot on April 20 have added to the feverish curiosity on the superstar wedding.

Ever since Abhishek and Aishwarya got engaged in January, media frenzy has been feeding an insatiable public hunger for juicy details on venue, date, trousseau and honeymoon.

"It (the date) must be true because the news was probably released from the Bachchans' office. Its apparently a three-day-long celebration," said a source.

Television and radio channels are adding to the cacophony. One TV channel has even gone to the extent of preparing a feature on the wedding with details of where Abhishek's father Amitabh and mother Jaya will stand to bless the couple.

But no one really knows the answer to the big question - are Abhiash - as the couple has been fashionably dubbed of late - actually getting married on April 20?

"All this news is coming from Delhi and everybody is relying on a report published in one newspaper. The Bachchans are closely guarding the wedding details, but I guess very soon they will make the announcement just the way they announced the engagement. But the reports are a little confusing because, if you see, every newspaper has a different version of the story," said the source.

One media report said, for the wedding, Abhishek would wear a golden sherwani weaved by a Varanasi-based family that has been in the weaving business for the last 400 years.

Abdul Matin, head of the weaver family, said that two months ago they were told to weave a Chaodani (golden fabric with a base of warped silk) style fabric for Abhishek's sherwani, which will approximately cost Rs.500,000. Some other weavers are said to be busy preparing Aishwarya's trousseau.

The venue for the wedding is reportedly Bachchan's Mumbai residence Pratiksha.

It is the last wish of Amitabh's mother Teji Bachchan, who is unwell and admitted at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, to see grandson Abhishek settled that is said to be behind all the rush.

Since the engagement announcement, all newspapers and TV channels have come out with a different wedding date, guest list and venues.

Some say it is going to be a big fat wedding, while others are sure it would be a very quiet and small affair. As far as media rights of the wedding are concerned, they have not been finalised yet.

Updates on the big fat B-Town wedding....

March 29, 2007 Ghar ki Lakshmi...

http://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images87/ASH2903.jpgWe said April 20, but it seems we were a day off. Nevertheless, that’s barely a difference of 24 hours so we won’t say we were wrong (tee hee)!
A friendly neighbourhood pandit and Bachchan insider now confirms that Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will tie the knot on April 19, which falls on the auspicious day of Akshaya Trithi.

This one of the four most auspicious days of the year and the right time to bring home the goddess Lakshmi (read Ash and her numerous endorsements, film deals, etc), hence a lot of people buy long-term assets like gold, diamonds and real estate. It is also said to bring good luck and success.

Now all that’s left is for the Big B to come out of Jalsa and announce the happy news to the rest of the world, eh?I want my Choos!

http://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images87/ASHWARYA2903.jpgWe’re told that Aishwarya Rai has a fetish for fancy footwear.

So much so, that the actress frequently visits international footwear fave Jimmy Choo whenever she’s abroad.

She loves the brand so much that she’s even ordered an exclusive pair to be flown across to her for one of her wedding events. Now that’s simply ‘shoe’ much!Amar Singh ka raj

http://www.mid-day.com/ArticleImages/images87/AMARAMITJI2903.jpgThere’s a rumour doing the rounds in Delhi that Amar Singh is busy organising the Abhi-Ash wedding.

No surprise there, except that if it were to be true we’d be really surprised that the Bachchans have so little say in their personal life.

Says a source, “When the Bachchans drew up a list of 250 people they wanted to invite for the reception and showed it to Singh, he tore it up and told them they had gone mad! ‘There’s no need to invite so many people,’ he is reported to have said.”
What we’re keener to know is who will be included in the guest list and who won’t.

Bachchan junior’s childhood home is being spruced up for the soon-to-be wed star couple
Paitiksha, the landmark bungalow at Juhu, home to the Bachchan family for nearly three decades, is being spruced up to house the soon-to-be wed celebrity couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aiswariya Rai.
Sources close to the family said that the interiors have been redesigned and refurnished during the last two weeks of hectic activity that went un-noticed behind the high walls and mammoth front gate.
The neighbours noticed a tempo full of packed material arriving late in the night and leaving in the wee hours carrying discarded household items including furniture.
Ash, apparently, has taken a keen interest in refurbishing the interiors, personally supervising the makeover whenever free from her film commitments.
“The work on the entire ground floor and the basement has been completed. Now final touches are being given to the first floor and the attic,” revealed sources.
The senior Bachchans will continue to stay at Jalsa, from where the Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) office has been shifted to a newly acquired premises nearby.
Insiders said that Bachchan junior was emotionally attached to Pratiksha, the home he was born and bred in. “He always considered it lucky and comfortable,” said a long time family friend.
The marriage ceremony, too, is slated to be performed at Pratiksha. Keeping in mind Big B’s mother Teji Bachchan’s medical condition, the marriage ceremony wll be a low key affair.

Neeta Lulla to design Ash’s bridal wear

The fashion designer is also making her LFW debut today, ensuring day 3 will be a star-studded affair
You must credit Aishwarya Rai for her loyalty. Despite the criticism she received for her look at the Cannes festival, she has stuck by her favourite stylist. The former Miss World has roped her in the fashion designer for the most important day of her life. “Yes, I am doing Ash’s clothes for her wedding,” confirms Neeta Lulla, promising to tell us more next week.
Right now, the popular Bollywood designer is all excited about her debut at the Lakme Fashion Week today. And, she isn’t alone. With other big star pullers like Manish Malhotra and Surily Goel out of LFW, the glamour-struck are hoping to see her friends from Bollywood both on and off the ramp.
“I’m excited about debuting in my hometown and of course, my friends from the film fraternity will be there to cheer me on,” she smiles. Hema Malini with daughters Esha and Ahaana are just some of the invitees. “Ash will come for the party in the evening,” says the designer.
So, what’s on show today? “Glamour with substance,” says Lulla, who has chosen to promote a cause through her collection. “I’m aiming to promote emancipation of the girl child. We’ve so many issues in our country. If, through my art, I can contribute in a small way to help solve those problems, then why not?” she says.
While she promises the clothes on display todaywill be chic, yet wearable, her opening outfit will be outrageous. “That’s just for shock value…to highlight the message of the cause I’m supporting,” she explains.
Finally, the question on everyone’s mind – who will be her showstopper? “A very beautiful woman and she’s not who you think!” is all she lets on.

Abhishek-Ash marriage: Not a big fat Indian wedding?
By ApunKaChoice

Considering the Bachchans' knack for keeping a low profile, the wedding of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai may not be a lavish ceremony.

At last some concrete reports are coming that the engaged couple will tie the knot on April 20 at the Bachchan's residence Prateeksha in Mumbai. Grapevine says there will be three ceremonies, sangeet ceremony, wedding and reception, spanning over a number of days.

The wedding reportedly will strictly be a private affair with only relatives and close friends from both families attending the event. The guest list for the wedding includes Amitabh Bachchan's close friends Amar Singh, Anil Ambani and his wife Tina, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Subroto Roy.

The sangeet ceremony before the wedding might see the presence of a large number of Bollywood stars. Reports have it that detailed plans are being chalked out to make the ceremony as musically entertaining as possible.

The reception, it is rumored, might take place in a hotel. A large number of people might be invited to the reception. However, there is no official word about it from the Bachchans yet.

Grapevine also has it that on his wedding day Abhishek will wear a golden sherwani, made by the 400-year-old family of master weavers from Varanasi.

Abhishek-Aishwarya: the date is fixed
By behindwoods

The most high profile marriage of Bollywood in many years finally has a date.

The Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai marriage has been fixed. It will happen on the 20th of April- Akshaya Trithiya. Considered to be the most auspicious day of the Hindu calendar year, Akshaya Trithiya is a day when thousands of marriages take place across North India. There cannot possibly be a better date for a marriage to take place.

Nothing much about the marriage except the date, the bride and the bridegroom is known. The venue has not yet been decided or disclosed. It will be a small family affair attended by close friends like Anil and Tina Ambani and Amar Singh. The ceremonies are likely to be spread out over three days, culminating in the marriage on April 20. Though no Bollywood bigwigs have been invited for the wedding, a grand reception for the entire film industry has been planned out. The rights for covering the wedding have reportedly been sold to an international media company.

The wedding date was apparently advanced because of the condition of Amitabh's mother Teji, who is being treated at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. No worries! We will keep you updated on every development in the run up to Bollywood's biggest celebration of 2007.

Abhishek, Aishwarya in London
By ApunKaChoice

With just a few weeks to go for their marriage, what are Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai doing in London?

Over the weekend, Ash and Abhi were in Malaysia where they performed at Zee Cine Awards. Now they have flown to London for another important event.

The couple will grace the premiere of Aishwarya's much-awaited movie 'Provoked' on Tuesday evening at the Empire Theatre, in Leicester Square. 'Provoked' is set for a worldwide release on the coming Friday.

The organizers have reportedly made special arrangements for Abhi and Ash's stay in London. The couple might stay an extra day after the premiere to do some shopping for their wedding on April 20.

Sources say Aishwarya will continue to shoot for Ashutosh Gowarikar's movie 'Jodha Akbar' until a few days before the wedding.

'Provoked' is based on a real story of a Punjabi woman in the UK who suffered physical and mental abuse at the hands of her husband. Tired of torture, she killed her husband one day and was sent to prison, where, she said, she found freedom.

The movie was first screened at last year's Cannes Film Festival, which was attended by Ash, director Jagmohan Mundhra, and Kiranjit Ahluwalia, whose story the film is.

Who's designing Aishwarya and Abhishek's wedding dress?

03rd Apr 2007 23.48 IST
By Aparajita Ghosh, apunkachoice

The wedding outfits of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have been designed by experts.

Ash has stuck by her favourite designer Neeta Lulla (who has designed Ash’s clothes for many movies and public events) to design her wedding dress.

Neeta does admit that she has been assigned the coveted job, but she refuses to divulge anymore details.

“I am very close to Aishwarya. And she doesn’t like anybody discussing her private affairs in public. So I can’t disclose what I am designing for her wedding,” Neeta Lulla is quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Ash’s mother Brinda Rai has roped in Kolkata-based designer Sharbari Datta to design the clothes that will be gifted to Abhishek from the bride’s family.

Sharbari is learnt to have designed traditional Indian dresses like sherwani, achkan, amrakha and shawls for Abhishek. The clothes will be classy and aristocratic.

Sharbari has also been given freedom to choose colours of her own choice, except black which is not considered auspicious in Hindu customs.

As for Abhishek’s wedding dress, the junior Bachchan will reportedly wear a golden sherwani that has been designed by Mumbai based design and tailoring house Kay Sons. In fact, just the fabric of the sherwani has been especially woven by the 400-year-old family of master weavers in Varanasi. The sherwani has already been designed and delivered to the Bachchans.

The marriage between Abhishek and Aishwarya will take place on April 19.

Abhishek and Aishwarya seem inseparable
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service

Mumbai, April 4 (IANS) With the wedding around the corner, Abhishek Bachchan and his fiancee Aishwarya Rai are trying to spend maximum time with each other and their schedules seem to be getting progressively clogged.

They attended the Zee awards ceremony in Malaysia Sunday. On the very next day Abhishek accompanied his bride-to-be to London for the international premiere Tuesday of her much-awaited film on domestic violence titled 'Provoked'.

Producer Murli Manohar told IANS: 'Although Abhishek is not directly related to the film in any way, he kindly consented to accompany Aishwarya to London for the premiere at the prestigious Empire theatre at Leicester Square.'

Curiously, there will be no premiere for 'Provoked' in Mumbai. Aishwarya, who had earlier gone out of her way to promote the film, had no time to do so. The film opens in four languages - Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu - in India.

'We had the film's director Jagmohan Mundhra and the real-life protagonist Kiranjit Ahluwalia, on whose true-life story 'Provoked' is based, travelling to various parts of India. Hopefully, the film's theme of domestic violence would ring a bell all over the country,' said Manohar.

Incidentally, 'Provoked' is Aishwarya's first international release since the lukewarmly received 'Bride & Prejudice' and the disastrous 'Mistress Of Spices'.

In both 'Bride...' and 'Provoked', the former Miss World plays a Punjabi girl, though a far unhappier one in the latter.

She now has another international film, 'The Last Legion', up for release. In India, this year she just has one movie - Ashutosh Gowariker's historical drama 'Jodha-Akbar'.

In 'Provoked', Aishwarya made no physical preparations to play the battered wife.

'I didn't try to look like Kiranjit. There's no physical resemblance between us. But I did connect with her in less apparent ways, met up with her a number of times,' Aishwarya had said in an earlier interview.

'Domestic violence or violence of any kind between a man and a woman is a horrific state to be in. This has been one of my most challenging roles to date,' the actress added

Aishwarya Bachchan or Aishwarya Rai Bachchan? By IndiaFM News Bureau

As predicted by numerologist, tarot, handwriting and signatures specialist Niraj Mancchanda, Abhishek and Aishwarya are getting married before June 2007.

Abhishek Bachchan in number 5 and Aishwarya Rai is number 1. Add her date of birth 1/11/1973=1+1+1+1+9+7+3=23=2+3=5 . That's her destiny number. She got Abhishek who is number 5. She was in love with him in the 32nd year of her life.

Aishwarya's handwriting reveals that she will never go against her family and values her family a lot. She is extremely attached to her mother. The marriage has been agreed with consent of her mother.

Abhishek Bachchan comes to number 49=4+9=13. He needs to write his name as Abhishek A Bachchan which comes to number 50. There is chance of him having some health problems between 2007 end and start of 2008. He needs to get some pujas and upays performed to curtail the problem.

Aishwarya should drop the surname Rai and use it as Aishwarya Bachchan. Her name will come to number 46=4+6=10=1. 46 is the number of immortality and as she is number 1 she will use her own number. If she decides to use Aishwarya Rai Bachachan then it comes to number 50 which is also outstanding number but 46 is more stronger for her as she is number 1 (born on 1st Nov.)

After marriage the couple will fight quite a bit and with both of them being such strong personalities will have ego problems.

If the pujas aren't performed and the health problems do occur for Abhishek, there are chances of a rift between the couple, but they'll live together and will manage their married life aesthetically

Special henna for Aishwarya-Abhishek wedding
By Indo Asian News Service

Jaipur, April 7 (IANS) Those of us who don't know where Sojat is, it's time to refresh their general knowledge. This is the place in Rajasthan from where Aishwarya Rai will get henna for her mehndi (henna) ceremony when she weds Abhishek Bachchan.

Over 15 kg of local henna will travel to wherever (the trader refuses to disclose where) the ceremony takes place. The henna packets would be sent five days prior to the wedding day.

'The Bachchan family contacted a mehndi agent in Mumbai who in turn has placed orders with two of the leading henna traders of Sojat,' sources told IANS here Friday.

These traders had prepared a special type of mehndi for model and actress Liz Hurley's wedding to NRI businessman Arun Nayar recently.

'We have received orders from an agent in Mumbai for the Bachchan wedding and we are preparing special packets for them. We will send these packets to wherever they decide to get married,' said Nitesh Agarwal, a Sojat-based mehndi trader.

Sojat and its surrounding areas in the Pali district of the state boast of the most intensive henna cultivation in India. Up to 90 percent of Rajasthan's commercial henna production is in this area.

Over 100 henna processing units are in operation in Sojat.

Bollywood's hottest couple are getting married on April 20. According to reports, the ceremony would be a low key affair and held in Mumbai with only the closest family and friends in attendance.

Abhishek Bachchan is number 5 & Aishwarya Rai is number 1. Add her date of birth 1/11/1973=1+1+1+1+9+7+3=23=2+3=5. That's her destiny number. She got Abhishek who is number 5. She was in love with him in the 32nd year of her life.

Aishwarya's handwriting reveals that she will never go against her family and values her family a lot. She is extremely attached to her mother. The marriage has been agreed with consent of her mother.

Abhishek Bachchan come to number 49=4+9=13. He needs to write his name as Abhishek A Bachchan which comes to number 50. There is chance of major acciedent between 2007 and 2008. He needs to get puja's and upays performed to curtail the acciedent.

Aishwarya should drop the surname Rai and use it as Aishwarya Bachchan. Her name will come to number 46=4+6=10=1 .

If the pujas aren't performed and the health problems do occur for Abhishek, there are chances of a rift between the couple, but they'll live together and will manage their married life aesthetically.

If Aishwarya Rai chooses to keep both second names (Rai and Bachchan) after her marriage to Abhishek Bachchan , it would certainly please her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan .
It would be a remarkable coincidence. We all know that Big B’s father was fondly called Harivansh Rai Bachchan by his admirers.

Amitabh, who loves his deceased father immensely, would indeed be pleased if Ash opts to use both the sir-names after her marriage to Abhishek in the coming weeks. Then she would be called Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
The name would constantly remind Big B of his father and will also be a humble tribute to the man who penned poetic works like Madhushala.
However, Big B has reportedly laid no conditions regarding Ash’s name. She is free to choose any second name. But sources close to Ash are quoted as saying that she wishes to be called Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after her marriage.
It is believed that Ash and Abhi will tie the marital knot on April 20. Very few people have been invited to the wedding, as it would strictly be a private affair.
Meanwhile, wedding preparations are in full swing in both the households (Rais and Bachchans). About 15 kilos of special henna is learnt to be ordered from Rajasthan for Ash’s mehendi ceremony.

An exquisite red sari - for Aishwarya, with love
Imran Khan [Wednesday, April 11, 2007]

Patna, April 11 (IANS) While Aishwarya Rai may be getting ready to don glitzy designer wear at her wedding, a young girl in Bihar is toiling away at an exquisitely embroidered red sari for the actress to wear on that special day.

Joyti Kumari, a 17-year-old college girl from Sipaya Tola in Gopalganj district, about 250 km from here, is a diehard fan of Aishwarya. And she is very busy these days.

For, the actress is getting married to actor Abhishek Bachchan in Mumbai on April 20, and Joyti hopes she will finish the sari in time to present it as a gift.

"She has been working day and night for nearly a month to create the finest embroidered sari for Aishwarya to wear on her wedding day," a close relative of hers said.

The relative said that Joyti selected a bright red sari keeping in view the beauty and fair complexion of Aishwarya. The sari, it is estimated, would easily sell for around Rs.7,500 if sold in the market.

Designer Neeta Lulla is reportedly designing embroidered saris for Aishwariya. But Joyti has her fingers crossed.

"I plan to visit Mumbai next week to personally hand over my gift to Aishwarya," Joyti said. But she was not sure whether Aishwarya would meet her. "I will try my best," she said.

She was in Class 10 when Aishwarya was crowned Miss World in 1994. "Since then, I have been a diehard fan of her and want to share my joy with her," she said.

A BA first year student in Mahendra Das College, Joyti is quite well known locally for designing women's clothes, particularly embroidered saris and salwar-kameezes. She trained in embroidery and stitching at an institute here a few years ago.

In her free time, Joyti helps girls from poor families by teaching them how to stitch and embroider. "It is my dream to help others," she said.

Right now, though, she is dreaming of a very special gift for a very special person!

Abhi-Ash drop by during the shooting of 'Goal'
By ApunKaChoice

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai seem pretty 'kicked up' about their forthcoming marriage.

The lovebirds have been spending quality time in London where they went last week for the premiere of Jagmohan Mundhra's movie 'Provoked'.

During their stay in London the couple took out time to visit the sets of Vivek Agnihotri's film 'Goal' that stars John Abraham and Bipasha Basu in the lead roles.

Abhishek is quite friendly to John and Bipasha. He has worked with them in 'Dhoom' and 'Dhoom 2' respectively.

Reports have it that John and Vivek were very thrilled by Abhi and Ash's surprise visit. In fact, Ash seemed quite dressed for the occasion. She was wearing a sports outfit.

The movie was being filmed at the Mill Wall Football Club where a scene showing a football game was being shot. The scene was meant to show a goal but the keeper accidentally ended up saving the ball.

To this Abhi added his humour by saying that he should be made the goalkeeper.

Quite a sense of humour Abhishek has.

Ash-Abhi: Extra marital affairs
By IBNlive.com
Friday April 13, 12:23 PM

Marriage is like dying: everyone thinks there is life after death and yet no one knows for sure. What makes the M word so tough for everyone is that apart from living with someone else for the rest of your life, there are other marital attachments that one needs to adjust to.

And if the common man has such a tough time with marriage, one can just imagine how nuptials and anything to do with them assume that much more importance when the person in question is a celebrity.

If marriage for regular people is perhaps the union of two souls and two sets of families (usually!), weddings for celebrities is the union of publicity, marketing, sales pitch and the putting together of the biggest media event (usually!). Of course, the bigger the celebrities involved, the bigger the drama.

Now, after the much publicised Liz Hurley-Arun Nayyar wedding, India prepares for the next big Shaadi Tamasha: the Aishwarya Rai-Abhishek Bachchan wedding. The Beauty and the Best Of The Lot.

With the nuptials getting grander every year, a celebrity wedding does not classify as an event until it has it's own USP, that something 'different' from other celebrity weddings -- unless you happen to be Liz Hurley or Jennifer Lopez and are the biggest selling point yourself.

But given that everyone has done everything - from landing in helicopters, to marrying in a palace, having separate ceremonies and celebrations spread out over a week - what would be so spectacular, or dramatic, or interesting or different about the Ash-Abhi wedding?

With a week to go for A and A to join together in holy matrimony, here are some quick pointers - taken liberally from other celeb weddings - of things they should do that might just make the the affair a little more than yet another celebrity wedding.

All relatives should be barred from the wedding

Having a Who's Who list of celebrity invitees is just so passé. Ash-Abhi should take a leaf out of Liz-Arun's book of marital conduct and should bar their respective families from attending the wedding. If that's too much, perhaps they should just ban Senior Bachchan from entering the venue… he might just distract the media!
Create a political (non) issue

Somehow, most celebrity weddings - outside India - are strangely apolitical. Perhaps it's because the West doesn't have politicians as colourful as ours. For that reason, Ash-Abhi should make theirs a hardcore political rally, what with uncle Amar Singh being a close family friend.

In fact, they should set precedent, cancel that supposed magazine deal for the exclusive rights to their wedding pictures and should use those pictures for Amar Singh's political brochures and pamphlets instead. Their slogan could be: Hum Do, Hamara Poora UP.
Go trendy, go Dhoom 2!

Everybody, and we mean everybody, marries in the finest of wedding apparel, be it virginal white gowns or the bridal red lehengas. Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears did it in a black tee shirt and white torn shorts respectively. Since Ash managed to actually look hot - and not just plastic- in Dhoom 2, we suggest the two tie the knot in the blue bikini she sported and Abhi's open-to-the-chest shirt the two wore in the flick. Or perhaps even a Bunty-Babli get up, just to add a touch of spice to an otherwise regular shaadi.

Have a special, Benefit Bollywood cricket match

Here's killing two birds with one stone, employment for not-good-for-most-things cricketers and something different for Ash-Abhi: a cricket match where the match is fixed, in favour of the cricketers. The wining amount should then be used to open a school for training beauty queens in UP.

Product placements and parting gifts…

With the number of products endorsed by Daddy Bachchan, the Bs should create history by tying up with every major and minor brand in the country to sponsor whatever possible for the wedding. They should allow the brands to display logos, glowing neon signs and even have their jingles playing in the background. As for thank-you gifts for the few guests present, it should be a sign-one-get-one-free contract where signing any one of the Bachchans would get you another acting Bachchan free.

Despite everything, Brand Bachchan, is here to stay; and with the wedding, the family consolidates its position as They Who Do Know No Wrong. So, here's wishing the couple a happy married life in advance, and since now that we will HAVE to see, hear and read what they do for their wedding, here's hoping Ash-Abhi might as well make it worth our while by following these suggestions.

QUOTE MARTIAL Bridal Asia CEO, Divya Gurwara: I don't see any problems with anyone having a opulent wedding. In normal cases, people get married but once in their life time and I feel they should go all out and do whatever they wish to do. However, I think it was really hilarious the way a recent wedding went about the marriage pictures and all. While spending money on your wedding is cool, I don't think one should making a deal out of your wedding. I would strongly advice Ash-Abhi to not. Fashion designer Ritu Beri:: "Abhishek and Aishwarya are doing the right thing and doing it very elegantly, the way they are going about their marriage. Going overboard is not my style personally; but the way Abhishek and Aishwarya are handling it is very intelligent. Marriages are completely personal affairs and should be shared with friends and family. Marriages are not something to be made into a tamasha the way many people are making them out to be." Industry expert and trade analyst Taran Adarsh: "It's a trend, it's been happening in the US and the UK for sometime now and is a popular norm. Why should we be surprised, it had to happen here as well. And if Abhishek and Aishwarya are getting money out of giving exclusive rights to their wedding pictures to a particular publication, I don't see anything wrong in it. After all even Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt did that with their baby pictures and more recently, you have the Arun Nayar-Liz Hurley example as well.

And where it matters - the marriage - the two are handling it very sensibly, the classy family they come from, they are not chasing the media and are keeping the ceremony a close knit affair. That's the way it should be."
