from indiafm.happy about this.looking forward to the movie:
This is a strict warning for all those who venture into a movieplex to watch DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL: There's a strong possibility that you'd fall off your chair laughing. To state that DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL is a rib-tickling comedy, would be an understatement. To even state that DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL is a laughathon, would be putting it mildly.
So, how does one describe DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL? Let's just say that the comic caper promises laughter and entertainment unlimited. Expectations run high as you wait for DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL to unleash, but let's assure you one thing: What you'd achieve is umeed se dugna!
Put your hands together, roll out the red carpet and blow the conch shells for one of the best comic capers to hit the screens in recent times. The film charters the same path as producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala and director Vikram Bhatt's AWARA PAAGAL DEEWANA, but the difference lies in the fact that DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL is a step ahead in terms of content, light sequences, performances and canvas.
If the year has witnessed the revival of the comic genre thanks to the success of KYAA KOOL HAI HUM, MAINE PYAAR KYUN KIYA, NO ENTRY and GARAM MASALA, it only cements further with DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL. Leave your thinking caps behind and we are sure, DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL is sure to make you deewana with its non-stop paagalpan entertainment.
DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL begins as a sweet romance between a boy-next-door, Karan [Shahid Kapoor], and the cynosure of the entire college, Tanya [Rimi Sen]. But the romance is short-lived since she happens to witness a murder [Om Puri, in a dual role] one fateful night. She's completely oblivious to the fact that the codeword to the secret formula is now with her in the form of a toy-parrot. The slain scientist's twin brother [Om Puri], a don, and his evil son want the codeword at any cost.
Tanya migrates to Dubai and even changes her name. She is Natasha now. Completely smitten by Tanya, Karan decides to trace her whereabouts and enlists the aid of a handsome investigator, Rocky [Akshay Kumar]. But Rocky ends up falling in love with her at first sight.
Meanwhile, Tanya's physically disabled friend, Sanju [Suniel Shetty], also has a soft corner for her and tries thwarting Rocky's attempts at getting close to Tanya. But the list of Tanya's suitors doesn't end here: There's another physically disabled person, Tommy [Paresh Rawal], who wants to marry Tanya.
The plot thickens as Rocky, Sanju and Tommy try to impress Tanya, by running down the other. The story takes a turn when the industrialist Tanya was engaged to [Aftab Shivdasani, in a cameo] surfaces in the end. Whom does Tanya choose? And what happens to the don and the secret formula?
It isn't the first time that someone has attempted to remake the immensely likable and successful THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY [1998; Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon, Ben Stiller. Rajiv Rai tried to interpret the story his way as PYAAR ISHQ AUR MOHABBAT, but didn't succeed. But Vikram Bhatt borrows the basic plot from the Hollywood flick and gives it a new color and feel altogether.
In fact, the two halves of DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL are a study in contrast and that's one of the prime reasons why it works. The first hour abounds in howlarious moments, with a dash of action and glamour giving the film that extra sheen.
In fact, the film starts off as a boy-next-door-meets-glam-babe story, but with the introduction of Akshay Kumar in the narrative, the film reaches at an all-time high. The film succeeds in not just making you laugh, but howl as Akshay, Paresh Rawal, Johny Lever and Vijay Raaz bring the house down in Dubai. In fact, at the end of the first hour, what you carry out of the auditorium are moments that'd be difficult to erase for a long, long time.
Vikram Bhatt changes gears in the next hour. From a comic caper, it changes tracks to a love story… sorry, multiple love stories. And though the pace drops at times and the comic quotient isn't as strong as the first hour, the outcome is thoroughly enjoyable as well. The dance competition between Akshay and Shahid, as the two vie for the attention of the same woman, is among the highpoints of the enterprise.
The portions involving the dog in the film, first involving Akshay and then Shahid, is bound to bring the house down. There's a lot of cinematic liberty there, but come on, DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL never claimed to be any sort of path-breaking cinema.
The climax is where the real action is, literally! The stunts in the sand dunes of Dubai leave you awe-struck as the men battle it out with the thugs. Even the finale, when the girl chooses her Mr. Right, is very interesting.
DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL is, without doubt, one of Vikram Bhatt's finest efforts. The director wasn't in form in some of his previous attempts [ELAAN, JURM], but he bounces back with renewed vigor and hits a boundary. Laughter is the most difficult emotion to capture on celluloid and Vikram does that with élan.
Anu Malik's music is of the popular variety, very much in sync with the mood of the film. 'Meri Jaane Jigar' and Akshay's introductory number 'Chakh Le' are two numbers that get a major boost thanks to the expert picturization as well. The dance competition track ['Aisi Umar Mein'] is another number to look forward to. But why did the makers chop off 'Maar Sutya' after the initial mukhda?
Kiran Kotrial's screenplay is tight, offering enough punches to the entertainment seeking moviegoer. Neeraj Vora and Abbas Hirapurwala's dialogues are first-rate, especially those delivered by Akshay, Paresh and Johny. Pravin Bhatt's cinematography is top class. The locales of Dubai and U.S.A. are a visual treat. Action scenes [Abbas Ali Moghul] deserve distinction marks. The climax stunts are simply breath-taking.
DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL belongs to Akshay Kumar. The actor goes on a rampage yet again and delivers a performance that's not at par but better than that in MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI and GARAM MASALA. It wouldn't be wrong to state that the actor's performance is one of the mainstays of the film and will contribute enormously to the repeat viewing.
Shahid Kapoor underplays his part beautifully. While Akshay has a mass appealing role, Shahid is the sober type, the typical lover boy… and he is a complete natural. Not once does he make an effort to go overboard, living the on-screen character with precision. Also, he is simply electrifying in the dance number.
Rimi Sen is competent, but she needs to do something seriously about her styling. Otherwise, she does her part well. Suniel Shetty is a revelation. The actor displays his comic side like a complete pro. Actually, he should continue doing roles that go beyond his action image.
Paresh Rawal is a scene stealer yet again. His sequence with Suniel Shetty at the music video shoot is amongst the most memorable sequences of the enterprise. Johny Lever is superb, especially in the sequence when Akshay cooks up an alibi about Rimi, when Johny and Shahid set foot in Dubai.
Om Puri is excellent as the don. Vijay Raaz is truly funny as Akshay's sidekick. Suresh Menon is fantastic as the South Indian son of the don. Asrani and Rakesh Bedi don't get ample scope.
Aftab Shivdasani is hardly there for one scene. Viveik Anand Oberoi, as the sutradhar, is the only blot in an otherwise fantastic film. He tries to do an Amitabh Bachchan, but falls flat on his face.
On the whole, DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL is a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer that works big time not just as a comic caper, but also for the gloss, music and stunts. At the box-office, it's a sure-shot hit!

Mumbai, Nov 27 (IANS) Bollywood's rising star Shahid Kapur, who shot to fame in a very short span, finds it difficult to keep up with his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor on sets.
Talking about Kareena he says: "She's so good I've to be on my toes constantly. A newcomer like me has to try twice as hard."
Shahid has left his contemporaries far behind apparent from the fact that he has signed Sooraj Barjatya's next movie and has two releases lined up.
Excerpts from an interview with Shahid:
Suddenly there's hyper-activity in your career?
I've three releases in a month and a half. The comedy "Deewane Huey Paagal" has just hit the screen. John Mathew Matthan's "Shikhar" releasing Dec 16. In January, I've Mahesh Manjrekar's "Life Ho To Aisi". In my whole career I've had only three releases. Now I've three films in a few weeks.
I never wanted to do too many films. But the offers are getting better and better. And I'd be foolish to say no to Sooraj Barjatya, Abbas Mustan and Priyadarshan. I'll have seven releases in next one year.
It's a crucial time for me. I'm trying my best to create nuances for each character. Right now I've no choice but to surrender to my directors' vision. They're all much bigger and better at their job than me.
How is it working with Priyadarshan for the first time?
I'm very happy. The film I'm doing is very funny. 80 percent of it is light-hearted. And then there's drama and romance.
Kareena and I are enjoying shooting for it. Right now Priyan is on a high. All his films are doing well. I hope "Kyun Ki" (starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor) does well. It's looking lovely.
You've just signed Sooraj Barjatya's film?
Yeah! Sooraj ji gave me a six-hour narration. He went into the details of dialogues, elaborated on how he wanted specific scenes to be done, sang songs to me. He gave me a complete picture of the experience.
After many years Sooraj ji is going back to his "Maine Pyar Kiya" roots. It's about a boy and a girl. I play the boy, Amrita Rao plays the girl and that's all I can tell you.
It's a very relationship-driven plot, so a lot will depend on Amrita and me. It's a very young film about discovering love. And since I think love stories are my forte I'm very excited about it.
John Abraham thinks you need to lose that beefy look.
20 years ago only action heroes needed to be in shape. Today I think everyone even the romantic heroes, need to stay fit. People like to see me as the boy next door. But even the boy next door has to have a toned body because there are gyms in every nook and corner of the city.
Abroad we've Tom Cruise who's a boy next door with a good body. I think an actor needs to have all the tools at his disposal. It's up to me to decide where I want to show my body. But yes, in "Dil Maange More" I had become too puffed up. I've lost weight. I want to look lean.
How do you view the competition?
It keeps changing every Friday. My competition is with myself. And if my films do well, I'm happy. Each actor has his own journey. Look at the three Khans - they all have their own place, and they're all irreplaceable.
Are you comfortable working with Kareena?
We did "Fida" together. We're now completing Satish Kaushik's "Milenge Milenge" and Abbas-Mustan's "36 China Town". She's so good I've to be on my toes constantly. A newcomer like me has to try twice as hard. Acting with her is like being on a treadmill.
But being in love and working together ...is mixing pleasure and business?
But we see it as a much-needed opportunity to be together. Right now both of us are at critical stages in our careers. We see it as an advantage that we're doing so many films together. If we didn't have three films together, we'd not be able to meet for weeks and months. And our relationship would've suffered.
Even if we're on the sets with lots of people, we still get to be near to each other, and that's enough. We're very closely connected. Being together helps both of us grow.
People had given the two of you just a few weeks...
It was weeks, then months. We've been together for two years. I feel our relationship is for keeps. My life is currently at a decisive stage. I know I'll get my dues. But sometimes this gets delayed. Sometimes you think you're doing the right film. But you're actually not.

Shahid Kapur: Kareena thinks I'm the best
Not ‘hot’, but ‘cute and romantic’, his USP?
My USP is my boyish charm. That’s what makes me stand out. I feel, the youth connect with me, which is pretty good. All the biggest stars today, Shah Rukh, Salman or Aamir Khan, essentially started with the boy-next-door image and have lasted for 15 years! Salman moved to the dude look much later. There’s a time for everything. But I am going to cash in on it. People have accepted the way I am, and I am going to give them what they like. To be cast by Sooraj Barjatya, particularly for my given image, I must say I am lucky to be working with him at such an early stage of my career.
Kareena thinks...
I am the best. She is my biggest ego booster! Since the last two years our bonding has grown deeper. I am incomplete without her in life and vice versa.
Audiences rejected the Shahid-Kareena pair...
Filmgoers expected a love story that explored the relationship of an offscreen couple. Our debut in Fida was a thriller. We are coming in three films, Milenge Milenge, 36 China Town and another film by Priyadarshan and this time we were extra careful while choosing the subjects.
Why does he choose only multi starrers? Is he not big enough for solo hero projects?
I will start taking myself too seriously if I start thinking that I am made only for solo hero projects. My debut as a solo hero was a big hit, but it’ll be stupid to be carried away by the success. Moreover, if you see, everyone including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh or Salman, is doing multi hero-projects. My upcoming films are three solo and three multi-hero projects. For me, the priority lies in choosing the right script.
Problems with mom (actor Neelima Azim)?
Contrary to the reports of our rift, mom and I never had any fall out. People around made mountain out of molehill. She has brought me up as a single parent, and now if she has found happiness, why not? The mother-son bond is unbreakable. Dad (actor Pankaj Kapur) is my punching bag, I seek his help in everything. We have become closer, in the last seven years when I shifted to Mumbai from Delhi. I respect him as a person and as an actor.
Girlfriend Kareena’s sister Karisma Kapoor’s recent personal crisis — an eye opener...
We’ve learnt to fiercely guard and carefully handle our relationship from the world.

CUT! CUT! CUT! Shahid’s role snipped
No, that wasn’t the director but co-star Akshay Kumar ensuring Shahid Kapoor’s truncated role in Deewane Huye Paagal
Mumbai Mirror Bureau
This isn't the first time that an Akshay Kumar film has shaped up the way it has. In the past, everyone from Saif Ali Khan to Suniel Shetty has cribbed about getting a raw deal, footage-wise when they shared screen space with Akshay Kumar.
But what happened to Shahid Kapoor's role in Deewane Huye Paagal takes the cake. According to sources, Shahid's role was severely edited, due to the handiwork of Akshay Kumar.
“At the time of the scripting itself (before the camera rolled) a large chunk of Shahid's role was edited. Once the shooting commenced there was a threat of his role being chopped even further; apparently because another actor in the film suddenly felt he looked too villainous – with Shahid looking angelic in comparison. Luckily, for Shahid he survived the threat. But yes, a lot of his scenes were snipped off from the script,” reveals a source.
Adds a prominent member of the cast, “What happened to Shahid was very unfortunate. Poor kid! He didn't know what hit him. But his role was really tampered with. I don't know why he prefers to keep quiet. I think he's very scared of the producer (Feroz Nadiadwala). Anyone in his place would've walked out.”
And a walk-out was exactly what the film's original director David Dhawan staged. When the interference from the producer and his favourite hero became intolerable, Dhawan bid the project goodbye. Satish Kaushik did the same.
That's when Vikram Bhatt stepped in. However, why Bhatt agreed to direct Deewane Huye Paagal remains a million dollar question? “When Vikram directed Awaara Paagal Deewana for the same producer, he was treated with disdain.
So, why did he agree to this film? As for Madhur Bhandarkar, who made Aan: Men At Work with Nadiadwala, he refuses to comment, instead he just shudders and says a silent prayer,” adds the source.

Shahid, Kareena can’t see eye to eye...
...Only becasue Shahid is down with conjunctivitis
Subhash K Jha
I had this eye infection for some time now. I kept ignoring it and continued shooting for Abbas-Mustan's 36 China Town because the dates were scheduled. That aggravated my eye problem. Now it's got so bad that the doctors have forced me to be bed-ridden until my condition improves. My doctor has even warned the unit to not permit me to go anywhere near the shoot. Now, I've no choice but to stay at home when I actually need to be out there promoting my two films Shikhar and Vah Life Ho To Aisi. Both open within a week of each other,” says Kapoor.
Despite this setback, Kapoor is upbeat about his releases. “Shikhar is high on morality. What do you expect from the director of Sarfarosh? I am pitched against Ajay Devgan. He plays a guy ready to go to any length to achieve his end, while I'm the seedha-sadha bhola-bhala person,” he says.
His role in Vaah Life Ho To Aisi has him equally excited. “It goes with my lover-boy image, you know, the gentle boy next-door. I've worked with a bunch of kids for the film, with whom I share the credits with. Mr India is one of my favourite films. Though Vah Life Ho To Aisi isn't similar in theme to Mr India, I love the idea of acting with kids. I felt like one of them.”
What about his recent release, Deewane Huey Paagal? Audiences missed a stronger presence from him.
“Isn't that a compliment? The fact that audiences miss my presence in a film is flattering. This was my first release in nearly a year since Ananth Mahadevan's Yeh Dil Maange More. But for now, I am done with Deewane Huey Paagal,” says Kapoor.

Suniel Shetty and Shahid Kapoor bond big time
Suniel Shetty confesses that every time he saw co-star Shahid Kapoor during the shooting of 'Deewane Huey Paagal' he would rush to pinch the younger star's cheeks.
'I don't know what it was about Shahid. But every time I'd see him I'd rush and pull his cheeks,' says Suniel affectionately. 'Things came to such a head that Shahid would cover his cheeks and run the other way every time he would see me. But what to do? He reminded me of my son every time I saw him.'
The bonding between the two actors from two generations is major.
They've formed a durable protégé-mentor relationship, last seen when Salman Khan had taken Hrithik Roshan under his wings and even shot pictures of the fledgling actor. Later Shah Rukh Khan took a shine to Zayed Khan during 'Main Hoon Na'.
Suniel hopes Shahid would make huge leaps in his career. 'He's excellent in 'Deewane Huey Paagal'. His dancing and comic timing are remarkable.'
Suneil plays a physically challenged lover-boy in the film, which he describes as a 'mad comedy'.
http://glamsham.com/movies/scoops/05/nov/shahid1.jpg (http://glamsham.com/download/picturegallery/picture.asp?subcatid=212)'But no one makes fun of the physically handicapped. I'd be the last person to participate in something that is derogatory to any section of society. It was fun to be associated with the 'Awaara Paagal Deewana' team again, and to know Shahid who's a dear boy.'
Suniel is all praise for leading lady Rimi Sen. 'While in the original, 'There's Something About Mary', three guys were in love with Cameron Diaz, in 'Deewane Huey Pagal' everyone from the usher at the cinema to Paresh Rawal to Shahid and me adore Rimi. Shahid Kapoor down with eye infection
Shahid Kapoor has a lot to look forward to what with Shikhar and Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi releasing within one week of each other. But the poor guy is now stuck in bed with an eye infection and can’t even promote his films. The infection developed while he was shooting for Abbas Mustan’s 36 China Town. However, since he had already allotted the dates, he ignored the eye infection and continued shooting. It worsened and now the doctors have advised him complete bed rest till he gets better.
In Shikhar he stars alongside Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu and Amrita Rao whereas Vah Life Ho To Aisi has him along with Sanjay Dutt and Amrita Rao. We’re sure that the bed rest will do him some good. Let’s hope that he gets well soon.

Doctors advised Shahid not to meet Kareena now!
Poor Shahid now stuck in bed with an eye infection; doctors advised him complete bed rest till he gets better and restricted anybody to meet him as the infection can spread in close contact. No way, Shahid will have to stay these days without seeing beau Kareena. The infection developed while he was shooting for Abbas Mustan's '36 China Town' with Kareena. However, since he had already allotted the dates, he ignored the eye infection and continued shooting, which led the infection got worse and he has no way but to oblige doctors advice.

Shahid Kapoor shares screen-space with step-brother
http://i.indiafm.com/img/news/dec/jaan1.jpg Shahid Kapoor will be facing competition from the home-front. He will be seen for the first time with his stepbrother Eshaan (whom he calls Jaan) in Mahesh Manjrekar's film Vah! Life Ho Toh Aisi which also stars Sanjay Dutt and Amrita Rao.
Currently shooting in Chennai for Priyadashan's Khatta Meetha with Kareena Kapoor, the actor hurt himself while playing cricket with Sunil Shetty and Priyan. "But I am okay now," he says.
Speaking about Eshaan he says, "It's really nice to see your younger brother in the same frame as you. I have never viewed him as my stepbrother (he is Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapoor's son). Eshaan is a part of my family and we share a great camaraderie. The film was also an excuse for the both of us to bond on the sets (we used to spend quality time together). He would constantly ask me questions about filmmaking and other technicalities. Eshaan was just seven when he signed this film, he will be eight this year. Working with my kid brother Eshaan was a lot of fun."

Two Films one Confident hero
http://specials.rediff.com/entertai/2005/dec/21sd1.jpg
Shahid Kapur has two upcoming releases lined up: Mahesh Manjrekar's Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi -- which hits theatres on December 23 -- and John Mathew Matthan's Shikhar, which is slotted for a December 29 release.
Having two back-to-back releases is tricky for any Bollywood hero. But Shahid is nonchalant.
"I have no problems about that. These two films are of different genres and my role is completely different in both the films," he says.
After a successful debut with Ishq Vishk (2003), Shahid's career has not yet taken off, as far as the box office is concerned.
The last film he did was Deewane Huye Pagaal, a comedy, with Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal. But it failed to drive the box office crazy.
Ditto for Fida and Dil Maange More last year, which sunk without a trace at the box office.
But, again, Shahid is nonchalant when you point it out to him.
"When I did Ishq Vishk, no one wrote about it; but that went on to become a hit. About Fida and other films, there was too much of buzz but that didn't click. So, you never know what will click in this industry," he says.

My job as an actor is to do good films and I am doing it. I have had only four releases so far. I am here to do good work; the rest is not in my hand."
Why didn't he ask his producers to postpone the release dates of at least one of his two new films?
"As an actor my job is to act. The rest is in the hands of producer and distributors as to when they want to release their films. They are the best judges to decide on the release date because it is their money which is at stake," says Shahid.
"I am not the only hero whose films are releasing back-to-back; there have been earlier heroes who had the same fate and their films worked at the box office. So, I don't see why my films won't work. VLHTA and Shikhar are different genre films."
DevilEyez

Shahid says he was delighted to be offered Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi. "This is one film I instantly said yes to, because the script was so good. I generally take time to decide on whether to say yes or no to a film but here I decided on the spot that I would be a part of the film."
The Mahesh Manjrekar film is about a young man who has to shoulder the responsibility of eight kid relatives, a sister, a drunkard brother and a grandmother.
But the young man dies in an accident, and meets Sanjay Dutt, the Yamraaj, or god of death.
"Sanjay a modern Yamraaj who wears Armani suits, Gucci shoes and also carries a laptop all the time," says Shahid.
"You see, this film was based on a Mr India kind of theme. I loved the subject and therefore there was no way I could say no to this film. Such films are made once in a decade. I am happy I got a chance to play a role in this film," he adds.
DevilEyez

Shahid's kid brother Eshaan is also in the film. He plays one of the eight children.
"Eshaan had come to the sets and when he came to know that there were children in the film he said he too wanted to be a part of the film," Shahid informs us.
"It was embarrassing for me to approach Mahesh Manjrekar and ask for a role for him [Ehsaan] but Mahesh started laughing when I told him. Mahesh said his son too is part of the film. He [Mahesh's son] too wouldn't let him [Mahesh] sleep peacefully if he did not take him in the film," Shahid adds.
Talk turns to Shikhar, and Amrita Rao.
"You will see the actress in Amrita Rao. She has done a beautiful role and the only reason I did this film was because it was a John Mathan Matthew film -- the man who made Sarfarosh, which is one of my favourite movies."
But there is no buzz about Shikhar. The songs too are not storming the charts, as they did for Sarfarosh.
"I don't think one should pass judgement about any film like this before it is released," replies Shahid.
"You just wait and watch the audience reaction on December 29."

Kareena Kapoor and her beau Shahid Kapoor together on December 30 will fly off for an overseas halt. Kareena, Shahid and their personal luggage; the trip is sure to be a sizzling one. Oh, I have forgot to say, where the lovebirds are landing on. It is Bali in Indonesia. And yes, this year they have set to bring in the New Year at Bali. The rumour mill has already started buzzing about the hot session they are going to have at Bali. But don't worry; Indian media's reach is not that long to catch yours smoochy-smoochy affair.

Shaahid’s story about Vivaah, Kareena!
He made his debut three years ago in 2003 and ever since life has been a rollercoaster ride for Shaahid. And he’s racing ahead on the road to stardom. “It’s been a good year for me. Though some of my movies didn’t do well as expected, my performances got noticed and I was appreciated for my work,” says Shaahid.
He must be upset because all his three recent releases - Vikram Bhatt’s Deewane Huye Pagal , John Matthew Mattan's Shikhar and Mahesh Manjrekar's Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi didn’t do well as expected. “I would be lying if I say I’m cool about it. I’m just a couple of films old and hits do matter a lot.
But having said that, DHP wasn’t a wash out, nor were John and Manjrekar’s films. They might not be doing rocking business, but were not complete washouts either,” informs Shaahid. What’s his plan for this year, we enquire? “I will have seven releases this year and I hope to regain lost ground,” he smiles and adds, “This year will be crucial and a testing time for me.”
How’s his Vivah shaping up? “What Vivah ? I’m not planning marriage right now,” he smirks. And when being told that we are talking about Sooraj Barjatya's film, Vivah , Shaahid heaves a sigh of relief. “Oh you are talking about Sooraji’s film Vivah . It’s going to be one of the most important films of my career. Sooraji is such a great filmmaker.
He does his homework well and takes care of the smallest detail before shooting. For doing the film, I had a clear idea of what I’m doing. He spent a lot of time together helping me prepare for my role,” he states. His mentor Ken Ghosh made a statement saying it was a proud moment for him when his discoveries (Shaahid and Amrita Rao) were roped in by Sooraj Barjatya.
“He’s right. The Barjatyas are an institution and it’s an honour to work with them,” agrees Shaahid. And he will be teaming up once again with his debutant heroine Amrita Rao. “Hmmm, yeah. I’m very comfortable working with her. I think we share a good chemistry on screen.
Let’s hope we can repeat the success of our debut film Ishq Vishk with this one,” he says. Having said that didn’t he think the Barjatyas seemed to have lost their magic touch in recent times? “Sorry, I don’t agree with this one. Just because one or two films didn’t do well, it doesn’t mean they have lost their touch. If that’s the way than half our filmmakers would be out of jobs,” says Shaahid defending the Barjatyas.
How about his real life jodidaar Kareena - does he think they make a good pair on the screen, we ask. “Definitely, otherwise why would producers waste their money on us? We are working together in Boney Kapoor’s Milenge Milenge and Abbas-Mustan's 36, China Town and both the films have shaped well
What does he think of Kareena as an actress, we want to know. “Oh, she’s a terrific. Whenever I have to shoot with her I have to be extra careful,” he grins. And what about Vivah in real life? Are they thinking about marriage? “No, not right now. We are at a crucial and exciting stage of our careers; marriage can wait,” he says.
And lastly, what about the rumours that he had used muscle building steroids for gaining those huge muscles? “No way. Forget about steroids, I don’t even smoke or drink. The only vice I have is tea. I’m addicted to tea, not steroids. I have been a fitness freak right from my childhood and my toned body is a result of all the hard work that I put in over the years. It was not achieved overnight,” is his parting shot!

SHAAHID: I DON'T DO MANY FILMS AT A TIME
Shaahid Kapoor is the one Bollywood actor who has a bagful of movie offers. However, he doesn't want to do many at a time. He wants to concentrate on those he has on hand. We met him recently after the release of his 'Wah! Life Ho Toh Aisi'.
Excerpts of our chat with him:
What are your new releases this year?
I have three big releases this year.
What are your expectations from them?
An artist pins high hopes on every movie. I wish the viewers to appreciate my movies and meet their expectations. I would like to rectify my mistakes though. I am banking on my 'Vivah', 'Milenge Milenge' and '36 China Town'.
Is it true that you declined some big banner movies recently?
Yes, I got many offers. However, I cannot do many movies at a time. So, I had to decline some offers.
Aren't you too excited with 'Vivah'?
It's indeed a different experience to act in a Rajshree Production. Sooraj Barjatya's is a well known family in the industry for its excellence even the audiences wait anxiously for long for its movies. Besides, Amrita Rao is my heroine in 'Vivah'. I have had a nice experience with her in 'Wah! Life Ho Toh Aisi'.
Aren't you working with Kareena Kapoor again in 'Milenge Milenge'?
Kareena is very special to me. I am too impressed with her frankness. She is a very nice human being. We share each other's quality.
Do you have Shah Rukh Khan's hangover?
Shah Rukh Khan is a very senior actor. I respect him. However, I wish to establish my own identity. That's why I am too much devoted to acting.

April Fool Special: Shahid ka Bakra!!By IndiaFM News Bureau, March 30, 2006 - 22:29 IST
http://i.indiafm.com/img/feature/06/mar/shahid1.jpg The month of April is arriving and apart from the summer vacations, people are also getting ready to celebrate the festival which marks the beginning of this laid back month. Yes people, we are talking about April Fools day or Bakra Din as one wise guruji called Cyrus Broacha refers to it. This fest was always celebrated by people but on a local level. However, Guru Broacha was the first revolutionary, who made this day universal by celebrating it on television, with a noble view to show us how dumb people (actually our film stars there) can look when trapped in a sticky situation and allow us derive affable pleasure observing them act stupid. The legacy has continued since then.
This year ETC, the music based entertainment TV channel, decided to play some pranks on our Bollywood celebrities while they were shooting for interviews and shows on the channel. One victim of this conspiracy was Shahid Kapoor.
Shahid was doing interview for one of the shows of the channel when a Sardarji barged in. The man who also claimed to be an artiste from Punjab kept announcing the name of his father and grandfather along with his. Said the Sardarji that he was doing so for the benefit of the viewers. Shahid who was the actual celeb to be interviewed got puzzled over this man who had reduced him to no-person on the sets of his own show. It was as if Shahid Kapoor was invisible to this man. Besides our young actor kept wondering throughout, trying to figure out who this personality from Punjab was?
The channel’s plan succeeded and the usually tolerant Shahid Kapoor finally lost his cool after 15 minutes. He was so bugged with this uninvited guest that he decided to leave the set instantly. It was only after the crew broke the truth on him that Shahid realized that he was conned. What fun!

...While Shahid has no work
The actor gets choosy about his roles, hasn't signed one for a year-and-a-half
Kunal M Shah
Shahid Kapoor has not signed any films in the past one-and-a-half years. All he has on his platter right now are UTV Motion Pictures' Chup Chup Ke and Mukta Arts' 36, China Town, Fool Too Final and Vivaah.
“Yes. It's true that I have no films on hand and I have not signed any film in the last year-and-a-half,” says Shahid. “After August, I have no films to work on.
I am speaking to a couple of a filmmakers but nothing is finalised as yet. I don't want to do more than three films a year. I have to be 200 per cent convinced before I take on any new projects.”
Shahid has his own reasons for being choosy about roles. “Times have changed today,” he says. “You may have one big hit, but if you follow it up with two flops, you are back to square one. The stakes are high and so are the expectations.”
As far as his own career is concerned, Shahid insists that life is full of surprises. “I achieved success unexpectedly with Ishk Vishk which was full of newcomers. But later, I did big banner films with big directors and surprisingly, these films didn't work for me.”
How does it feel to be being written off after a string of flops? “I guess it happens to everyone. You have to take flops with a pinch of salt,” he replies. “I am content with the ways things have shaped up in my life. I come from a middle-class family and there have been times when I did not have money for petrol for my car. In that respect, I have seen both sides of life.”
Work apart, Shahid's personal life seems to be a bed of roses. He says, “ Kareena and I have been lucky to do three films together. This means that we get to spend a lot of time with each other. We try to plan our time with each other according to our work schedules. However, for both of us, work is a priority. Kareena is at the peak of her career and is doing very well for herself. I am just a beginner… I want to survive for at least 15 more years.”
Of late, Shahid was embroiled in a controversy, with everyone talking about his tiff with Firoz Nadiadwala. “I didn't say anything about being happy or sad with Firoz Nadiadwala's film,” he clarifies. “I am doing this film for Ahmed Khan who I have known for a long time. I would have done it even if he had asked me to just do a couple of scenes. It's only incidental that this film is being produced by Firoz Nadiadwala.”

Shahid gets choosy
The talented Kapur plans to do just a few films a year from now on
I Hiren Kotwani
J ust back from the shoot of Sooraj Barjatya’s Vivaah, Shahid Kapur is shooting even on a Sunday, wrapping up Chup Chup Ke, directed by Priyadarshan. Vivaah was evidently a good experience. “It’s fantastic working with a director like Soorajji,” says Shahid. “He’s so clear about his script that he’s done most of your homework for you.” The young actor, who has worked with top filmmakers like Subhash Ghai and Abbas-Mustan, besides Priyadarshan and Sooraj Barjatya, is modest about his CV. “I’m lucky to be offered films with these producers and directors,” he says.
Chup Chup Ke, a UTV production in which he stars with Kareena Kapoor and Neha Dhupia, is “not a love story per se”, says the actor. “The love story between Kareena’s and my character is just a part of the larger story (of a guy who is in major debt and clueless about how to repay it). His search for a solution takes him to this Gujarati household but since he is not willing to reveal his true identity, he pretends to be deaf and mute. To his surprise, he discovers that Kareena, one of the girls there, is actually mute.” The film is described as a “comedy of errors, typical Priyadarshan style”.
But before this comedy of errors hits theatres, Kapur will be seen in a thriller, Abbas-Mustan’s 36 China Town for Mukta Arts. “It’s very Abbas-Mustan in terms of narration and execution. I got along very well with Akshaye Khanna during the making of this film. Many a time, we played cards after pack-up,” says Shahid.
That must be quite something, since multi-starrers often breed jealousy among the parallel leads. Late last year, there were rumours of Akshay Kumar cutting Shahid’s role in Deewane Huye Paagal. “I never said anything about it then, and I won’t say anything about it now,” the younger actor maintains.n Considering he was banking on Waah! Life Ho Toh Aisi and Shikhar, where does he think the films failed? Shahid is diplomatic again: “It’s a sin for an actor to dissect his film after it hasn’t done well at the box office. And it’s equally sinful to analyse a film after it has done well.” Maybe the box office results do not put him in a lather, but the actor admits he does get a case of nerves before the release of a new film. “We all work hard as a team to make a film, so naturally we’re apprehensive about how the audience will receive it. Theirs is the ultimate verdict.” After Salman Khan’s jail time in Jodhpur and subsequent bail application, the postponement of the Rockstars world tour has given Shahid a sudden break. But he is not taking it easy. “I’ll be rehearsing for the shows. The choreographers know that I am a good dancer, so they’ve given me more songs to perform, which translates into more hard work.” With every film Kareena and Shahid do together, the characters they play are maturing. How is that influencing their personal life? “Our characters have nothing to do with what we are off screen. I don’t think one can view a relationship from the perspective of the work the two people do.” His films, his ¦ Working with the best: In his short span of career, Shahid has worked with some of the best directors — Ken Ghosh, Abbas Mustan, Priyadarshan and Sooraj Barjatya.
Growing up: ¦ Undeterred by the series of flops, Shahid considers it a part of growing up in the industry. ‘Every failure teaches us a lesson,’ he says.
Kareena: ‘It’s ¦ great to have her in my life. Though both of us are very different, I guess we are made for each other.’ Dancing: A ¦ member of the Shiamak Davar’s troupe, Shahid says dancing is his childhood passion.

Flops don't deter me: Shahid
Thursday, April 20, 2006, indiainfo

Just four films on his platter and he hasn't signed any new film in one and half years. Shahid confirms this news and says that post August he has no film to work on. He is speaking to a couple of filmmakers, but nothing has materialized. "What's the point in having one hit and then two flops?" he questions. "I don't want to do more than three films a year. I have to be 200 per cent convinced before I take on any new projects," he adds.
He has had many flops in his career and this has not deterred him. "I am content with the ways things have shaped up in my life. About Kareena he says that they have been lucky to do three films together. This means that they get to spend a lot of time together. But he affirms that work is priority for them. "Kareena is at the peak of her career and is doing very well for herself. I am just a beginner... I want to survive for at least 15 more years in this industry," Shahid concludes.

Shahid Kapur sports a new look in 36 China Town
By IndiaFM News Bureau, April 20, 2006 - 00:04 IST
http://i.indiafm.com/img/news/06/apr/shahid1.jpg
One of the biggest attractions of this summer is 36 China Town. And one of the biggest attractions of 36 China Town is Shahid Kapur. Shahid is all set to entice the audience with his new look in the film. Mesmerizing and riveting are the look of the promos, where the beguiling Shahid Kapoor lures you into a finely spun web of murder and mystery.
When we caught up with Shahid on the same the ever-smiling star said, “It’s been a great learning experience for me, to be under the guidance of none other than the eminent duo Abbas-Mastan. I am very excited about 36 China Town and am eagerly awaiting its release.” And with Kareena Kapoor as company you surely know what kind of chemistry to expect onscreen.
This summer all roads lead to 36 China Town. Or should we say all roads lead to Shahid Shahid?

Shahid gets new look for 36 China...
Apr 25, 2006
At this point of his career, Shahid Kapur is more interested in proving himself as an actor rather than a star. For starters, he has already worked out a new look for 36 China Town. Shahid says that his new look was not because other actors were part of the film. “When I heard the script, I genuinely felt that my character, which is that of a struggling actor trying to make it big in the city, needed a different look,” he said. But did playing wannabe actor in the film come easily to him? “I am a simple person and so is the character I play in the film. In fact, I always find some part of me in the all the roles that I have played so far. But unlike my character in 36 China Town, I don’t wear loud clothes. Also, I have tried to keep my hair long to look different,” he says.
Sabina Khan is Shahid’s designer and she suggested the look. “She does say what is best for me. But I keep the character sketch in mind and I also add my inputs,” Shahid says. Ask him if it was just a trend for actors to experiment with their looks and Shahid says, “More then a trend, it’s a script requirement.” What were his expectations from 36 China Town? “I generally don’t like to have expectations from any of my films. If the production is good and the film is being made well, it will do well.
Abbas-Mustan are the best in the industry for the genre of the films that they make. It is a very interesting story and I don’t think there is any film that is similar to this. And like all Abbas-Mustan films this one too has its own twists and turns. But ultimately, the fate of the film will be decided the day it releases. I hope for the best but I am prepared for the worst,” Shahid says philosophically

As co-star, Kareena like any other: Shahid
May 01, 2006
Mumbai, May 1 (IANS) Teen heartthrob Shahid Kapur claims that pairing professionally with girlfriend Kareena Kapoor is like working with 'any other co-star'.
'She was like any other co-star. Beyond a point it was like it has been with other artistes,' said Shahid, who stars with Kareena in Abbas-Mastan's '36 China Town' releasing next week.
The couple was earlier seen in Ken Ghosh's 'Fida'.
In '36 China Town', Shahid plays an aspiring actor who runs away from home to make it big but finds himself trapped in mysterious circumstances.
'I play the character of a struggling actor in the film with loads of dream. I have a fight with my parents when they try to stop me from getting into films. I throw a challenge at them that I will come back only after making it really big in the industry.
'Circumstances are such that I get stuck in a controversy and keep running from place to place. It is about how my character gets into the mystery,' Shahid told IANS.
Commenting on the title of the film, he said: 'There is a place called China Town in the city and the number of the bungalow where the incident happens is 36. Hence this name because it talks of the address where the crime happens.'
Shahid is not at all worried about the length of his role in '36 China Town', which is a multi-starrer.
'If you have a good role and each role is clearly defined, then artistes get their share of exposure in the film. Secondly, how you play your role is also important. The right script is important for any film and not only for multi-starrers. In fact, in such films your own responsibility as the star gets shared and this betters your performance.'
Most of the top stars are into bodybuilding, but Shahid says an actor should concentrate more on his performance then biceps.
'I don't think that bodybuilding is absolutely essential to be a lead actor in Hindi films. It is more important to be able to perform. So acting is primary, anything else comes as an additional perk.'
The actor also said he is a big fan of his father, Pankaj Kapur, and veteran actor Dilip Kumar.

Looking for a love story
Shahid Kapoor wants to star with Kareena Kapoor in a true-blue romance
Subhash K Jha
When Shahid Kapoor talks about his pairing with Kareena Kapoor in 36 China Town, one gets the feeling he really wants it to work. “I feel Bebo and I must do a genuine love story together, if not for the audiences’ sake, then for our own,” he says. This, because he feels that both, Abbas-Mustan's 36 Chinatown and Priyadarshan's Chup Chup Ke, in which he co-stars with his real-life love, Kareena Kapoor, aren't love stories in the true sense of the term.
“It's true we haven't really had a successful film together. I guess audiences couldn't digest the negative ending in Fida,” he explains. “They wanted to see me and Bebo living happily ever after. In 36 Chinatown and Chup Chup Ke there are plenty of sweet, romantic moments. Yet neither is an out-and-out love story. Chinatown is a murder mystery, and Priyan's film is driven by comedy.”
Won't two back-to-back films with Kareena be overkill? “The two films look different,” he replies. “If a product is good, it'll do well. My first film Ishq Vishq wasn't hyped much. It still did well, while my second film Fida, which was better publicised, didn't work. The size of the product makes no difference, the content does.”
Shahid plays a struggling actor in 36 China Town. “Once he gets here he finds it hard to get even a B-grade role. Scary thought,” he laughs.
Right now he's back to shooting for Barjatya's Vivaah. “It has just two principal characters – Amrita Rao and me. We've seen hundreds of love stories. But few that deal with arranged marriages.”

The two plan to watch '36 China Town' in the US and 'Chup Chup Ke' in the UK on June 9 th when it releases.
