He is a softly
spoken gentle giant, a formidable Islamic castle in the midst of British
Houses of Lords, and The oldest surviving democracy in the world.
Lord Ahmed of Rotherham is the first ever-Muslim lord in the house of
lords of Britain, which are the upper houses of parliament and a very
influential When he takes the stand the transformation is incredible the softly spoken.
Ahmed carries a storm in his voice and brings much needed thunder and
lightening He speaks without fear or favor and his commitment and dedication is
relentless, When he talks about atrocities in Kashmir his voice trembles and he is
close to tears Not only the British Muslims but also the Muslim Umma as a whole considers
him to be their representative in the west who would speak loudly for
their causes in the middle of a society which misunderstands the peaceful
message He is a very well read person with a very high level of understandings
of the political arena in the East and West. Lord Ahmed speaks very intelligently
and in the House of Lords they wait for him to make a speech because he
speaks to the people there in the way they understand and provides them
information about various issues which are very important in this day
and age and they have been misinformed about these issue over centuries
which has created long standing barriers and his mission is to demolish
these barriers and bring the truth forward My first opportunity to hear him speak was at a function, which was organized by a Pakistani organization in London Many speeches were made and the audience was getting rather bored and than Lord Ahmed started speaking and brought life back to the people dozing off in their chairs. He spoke for few minutes and brought non-stop applause from the listeners and that was enough for me to be seeking an audience with him After the function I spoke with his assistant and requested some time
with him and after few days got a slot of few minutes to meet with him
in the Houses of Lords And on the day being I and myself, I turned up
in a white tee shirt and jeans in the House of Lords There were some other people with the Lord Ahmed a delegation of Pakistanis from Midlands and also a group of diplomats from the Moroccan embassy. I was squeezing my questions in between while he was advising people
on immigration While all this was going on Mr. Peter Haine home office minister for foreign affairs came and joined us he said he was looking for Lord Ahmed since this morning and needed to talk to him in private for few minutes So Lord Ahmed and Peter Haine apologized to all of us and walked away to a corner where we could see a heated discussion was taking place about some important issue and minister kept on nodding his head while Lord Ahmed kept on putting his point of view forward this I thought had to be related to a debate which was coming up very soon about India, Pakistan and Kashmir. It was an experience to be had this is real politics in the making History taking shape in front of our eyes. It made me feel very important being part of this moment while some policy issue was being discussed. I turned my attention to Lord Ahmed's guests and asked few questions.
Over the time I realized that everyone who came to visit him from the
Asian community addressed him as Bhai Jaan. (Big brother). That's a great
honour everyone in the Asian community think of him as a brother hence
they all come to him for help whenever there is a problem
I asked him how he came to be a lord his first reaction was a big smile And one of the Pakistani ladies who was visiting him replied instead saying he was born a lord it just took the world few years to realize his true potential and everyone burst out laughing. But Lord Ahmed is an exceptionally experienced political hand. He has
been a councilor in Rotherham and also was a perspective parliamentary
candidate couple of times He took few days to decide and after extensive consultation and deliberation with his friends and colleagues and also after careful consideration of the extent of constructive contributions he could make not only to British Politics but also to the plight of "Kashmir "and other causes of human suffering. Eventually he decided after a few days and advised the Prime Minister who was delighted at his decision to accept a life peerage And since his investiture in the House of Lords he has made a tremendous contribution to highlight the causes of freedom fighters around the world. His style and sincerity has caused the Alarm bells ringing in various quarters particularly in the Indian and Russian quarters His persistency and dedication to highlight issue such as Chechneya, Libya, Kashmir and Iraqi sanctions has earned him the nick name of Lord of thunder & lightening in the political circles Lord Nazir Ahmed is a man of formidable strengths and a committed friend
The Saudi Royal Family invited him for Hajj this Year where he was representing
an Lord Ahmed is the pillar of Pakistani and Kashmiri community in Britain if there is a function organized by the community he has to be there otherwise function is considered a flop and people do not turn up either Something very interesting happened at one of the Pakistan welfare association's functions in Southall one of the Ladies brought her new born child to Lord Ahmed and put the child in his lap asking Lord Ahmed to pray for the child to have a good life and when he grows up to be like Lord Ahmed he was chuffed at the respect he was getting from this lady than I saw Lord Ahmed's hand going to his pocket and the child's good fortune began with a large denomination of pound note. I would say Lord Ahmed is a good bet to invite around if you have a new
