He is a softly spoken gentle giant, a formidable Islamic castle in the midst of British Houses of Lords, and The oldest surviving democracy in the world.

Lord Ahmed of Rotherham is the first ever-Muslim lord in the house of lords of Britain, which are the upper houses of parliament and a very influential
institute of legislation.

When he takes the stand the transformation is incredible the softly spoken. Ahmed carries a storm in his voice and brings much needed thunder and lightening
in the House of Lords

He speaks without fear or favor and his commitment and dedication is relentless,
He literally goes to the corners of the earth in support of cause of Islam whether it is to bring Libya back into the fold of the nations or to support the freedom fighters of Chechnya. The Kashmir issue is closest to his heart he is totally and utterly committed
to peace and freedom for Kashmir

When he talks about atrocities in Kashmir his voice trembles and he is close to tears you could feel how much he feels for the Kashmiri people And he is working for this cause non-stop whether he is speaking in the House of Lords or he is having a meeting with some important political or diplomatic person Kashmir is always in the forefront.
He will never rest until peace and normal conditions, which we take for granted, prevail in Kashmir And his contributions to highlight the Kashmir issue and to bring it to
the attention of the international community are enormous Kashmir is his passion, His life; he is utterly committed to eradicate the injustices done in the beautiful valley of Kashmir

Not only the British Muslims but also the Muslim Umma as a whole considers him to be their representative in the west who would speak loudly for their causes in the middle of a society which misunderstands the peaceful message
of Islam,

He is a very well read person with a very high level of understandings of the political arena in the East and West. Lord Ahmed speaks very intelligently and in the House of Lords they wait for him to make a speech because he speaks to the people there in the way they understand and provides them information about various issues which are very important in this day and age and they have been misinformed about these issue over centuries which has created long standing barriers and his mission is to demolish these barriers and bring the truth forward

Lord Ahmed's knowledge of Islamic issues is even more impressive he derives his knowledge from the scholars of Al-Azhar in Egypt and the modern day scholars from Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Pakistan and the enormous untapped potential of Muslim scholars based in the UK

My first opportunity to hear him speak was at a function, which was organized by a Pakistani organization in London Many speeches were made and the audience was getting rather bored and than Lord Ahmed started speaking and brought life back to the people dozing off in their chairs.

He spoke for few minutes and brought non-stop applause from the listeners and that was enough for me to be seeking an audience with him

After the function I spoke with his assistant and requested some time with him and after few days got a slot of few minutes to meet with him in the Houses of Lords And on the day being I and myself, I turned up in a white tee shirt and jeans in the House of Lords
This was my first trip to the birthplace of British democracy and I thought. I would meet him in his office for few minutes and would not have to take off my over coat but as I entered the Peer's entrance a very smartly uniformed officer of the house of lords took my coat from me hence leaving me exposed in my tee-shirt in the middle of a place where everyone was wearing suits and they looked part of it. The grace of the place was very evident even to someone like me and needless to say I stood out there like a soar thumb. But than I said to myself I have to be different and I am here being very different so relax and take it easy. After a few minutes Lord Ahmed's secretary came to get me from the entrance and led me to the House of Lords where Lord Ahmed greeted me with a big smile and a loud Asalm o Aleekum it made me feel proud.

There were some other people with the Lord Ahmed a delegation of Pakistanis from Midlands and also a group of diplomats from the Moroccan embassy.

I was squeezing my questions in between while he was advising people on immigration issues and how to go about doing things in the correct way I was most impressed with his legal knowledge of immigration issues and asked him if he studied law but he said no.

While all this was going on Mr. Peter Haine home office minister for foreign affairs came and joined us he said he was looking for Lord Ahmed since this morning and needed to talk to him in private for few minutes

So Lord Ahmed and Peter Haine apologized to all of us and walked away to a corner where we could see a heated discussion was taking place about some important issue and minister kept on nodding his head while Lord Ahmed kept on putting his point of view forward this I thought had to be related to a debate which was coming up very soon about India, Pakistan and Kashmir.

It was an experience to be had this is real politics in the making History taking shape in front of our eyes. It made me feel very important being part of this moment while some policy issue was being discussed.

I turned my attention to Lord Ahmed's guests and asked few questions. Over the time I realized that everyone who came to visit him from the Asian community addressed him as Bhai Jaan. (Big brother). That's a great honour everyone in the Asian community think of him as a brother hence they all come to him for help whenever there is a problem
The amazing part was that he dealt with everyone with same enthusiasm and commitment and really treated them like family. The Officials from the Moroccan embassy were waiting for the Lord to return to them and said that it's not just the Pakistani community but also all the Muslim world come to him as he is their brother too. This must be the greatest honour to be thought of as "The Brother" of the whole Islamic world

After a while Lord Ahmed returned with a big smile and a grin on his face looking very happy I asked him what was happening he was not able to say what was being discussed with the Minister but he said it was all good work and I believed him

I asked him how he came to be a lord his first reaction was a big smile And one of the Pakistani ladies who was visiting him replied instead saying he was born a lord it just took the world few years to realize his true potential and everyone burst out laughing.

But Lord Ahmed is an exceptionally experienced political hand. He has been a councilor in Rotherham and also was a perspective parliamentary candidate couple of times
He also stood for the European parliament once and is very well known and respected in the political arena, Lord Ahmed's "Lordship" came into being when Mr. Tony Blair prime Minister of Britain one evening rang Lord Ahmed and asked him if he would consider being A Labour Peer in the House of Lords

He took few days to decide and after extensive consultation and deliberation with his friends and colleagues and also after careful consideration of the extent of constructive contributions he could make not only to British Politics but also to the plight of "Kashmir "and other causes of human suffering.

Eventually he decided after a few days and advised the Prime Minister who was delighted at his decision to accept a life peerage And since his investiture in the House of Lords he has made a tremendous contribution to highlight the causes of freedom fighters around the world.

His style and sincerity has caused the Alarm bells ringing in various quarters particularly in the Indian and Russian quarters His persistency and dedication to highlight issue such as Chechneya, Libya, Kashmir and Iraqi sanctions has earned him the nick name of Lord of thunder & lightening in the political circles

Lord Nazir Ahmed is a man of formidable strengths and a committed friend
of the oppressed around the world but beauty of his personality is his simplicity
and straightforward talk

The Saudi Royal Family invited him for Hajj this Year where he was representing an official delegation of British Government. He took Muslim Medical professionals with him and few thousand kilogram's of medicine to serve the hajjes. While performing Hajj he was offered a five star hotel for accommodation but throughout the Hajj he slept on the floor just to remember and be part of the real experience of Rasool-e-Akram (SAWS). This was an act of a simple Muslim heart kneeling in front of his Allah
and being equal to every other Muslim around the world and committing himself
hundred percent to Allah.

Lord Ahmed is the pillar of Pakistani and Kashmiri community in Britain if there is a function organized by the community he has to be there otherwise function is considered a flop and people do not turn up either

Something very interesting happened at one of the Pakistan welfare association's functions in Southall one of the Ladies brought her new born child to Lord Ahmed and put the child in his lap asking Lord Ahmed to pray for the child to have a good life and when he grows up to be like Lord Ahmed he was chuffed at the respect he was getting from this lady than I saw Lord Ahmed's hand going to his pocket and the child's good fortune began with a large denomination of pound note.

I would say Lord Ahmed is a good bet to invite around if you have a new
born…………………………………………………………………….
